This is one I built some while ago from 2 kits (shed & water tower) but I covered it in Scalescenes paper
Hi Ian, That looks pretty much like the one I have ordered. Looks really good. I think I will try and airbrush mine and if I make a chorus and verse of it, I can always try the Scalescenes route. Cheers Toto
Lcut hadn't done the water tower version when I did mine but I'll be interested in how yours turns out Toto .. tip; it only needs a pin hammer
Well, finished off earlier today by dismantling the two old baseboards. ...... Yes ...... Dismantling and recycling most of the timber. ( Gormo will give me a gold star for that ). A lot of the plywood and the strapping is reusable. I don't have the space to keep it really but I hate to see good wood go to waste. I'll be falling over the stuff for months now. I also had to have a bit of a tidy up as its amazing how stuff accumulates without you noticing. The new baseboards are a bit bigger than previous in terms of their width so I had to clear the decks in order to prepare a bit space for getting the joint made between baseboard 1 and baseboard 2. I'm nearly there so I think it will be mission accomplished by tomorrow provided I can find my remaining T nuts, otherwise it's another trip to B&Q. I dug out some of my Townstreet stuff earlier today ( tunnel openings and signal box and stone wall sections ready to use them for some dimensions once the baseboards are joined and the track laying commences. I await the engine shed and coal skaithes from L Cut creative which I have just ordered. Things are moving now ..... Slowly. Cheers Toto
It's a whiteout here in Edinburgh this morning so looks good for the shed. I won't be going anywhere in this weather. Unfortunately that includes B&Q but there are things I can be doing. Lulu is loving the white stuff. Mental mutt. Cheers Toto
Try Toolstation rather than B&Q, you will love the price difference. B&Q £3.22 for 10 https://www.diy.com/departments/avf-m8-steel-pronged-tee-nut-pack-of-10/250639_BQ.prd Toolstation £1.91 for 10 https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p44911?table=no You can always walk Lulu there win win. Paul
I think I'll head up there. The snow is quite heavy so I'll do it shortly before the roads become unpassable. That'll be me settled in the shed with the heater for the day. The plan has been hatched.
While your in the shed, can you measure the overall width of a pair of tracks on the traverser, as I want to get the pitch correct for the second traverser. Cheers Paul
Brrrrrr ...... back from Tool Station. Got my T nuts, bolts, fostner bits, drill bits, screws, pozi drive screw driver bits ..,...... Cheap as chips. No more B&Q for this kind of stuff. Saved a fortune. Out to the shed shortly cheers toto
I can hear the power tools at work already...! We could do with a drop of snow in Sydney today/tonight, just to help cool things down a little... It is still 27*C at 10.30pm, but was around 38*C today... Cheers, Gary.
Yes , and job done. pattern makers dowels in place, bolts and T nuts drilled and fitted, 25mm cable route holes drilled through and boards assembled and in place on the work bench ( just ) ready to start marking up reference points for the track, buildings, points and wagon turntable. The long view .... and another .... and one more for the moment ..... I can start playing around now. Oh yes ....... and some more bracing added to the frame work as the extra width of the baseboards may have allowed twisting. ...... not now. and one for Paul ....... reference size for back to back measurements for the traverser track is 145mm. I checked this against them all and they are more or less exact. maybe the odd mm out but not much. cheers toto
Back to the shed later tonight for my first dabble with dimensions. In particular building dimensions which I have scaled up to O gauge from some Scale scenes kits. A lot of the dimensions from the engine sheds etc can be used as long as you allow a bit extra height for gantries to lift wagon bodies far enough up of their bogies. Plywood back frames with either card or plastistruct sheets. I need to do a bit experimenting with the adhesive ( ply to plastic ) as I don't want the plastic to bubble like my previous effort. I may try evostick contact adhesive this time. Longer to dry but may be more suitable when applied to a surface and left to vent before marrying the two parts together. A bit of experimentation required I think. cheers toto
I do have a slight feeling of Deja vu......... but this time it WILL be different Good start, and thanks for the measurement, may be handy for yourself as well. Paul
I'm not sure if it is Evostick or Bostick but one of them make a solvent free contact adhesive, it works the same but needs longer to dry before assembly. Or, if you sand the back of the plastic sheet to key it, you could use PVA. Pete.
Copydex or Latex glue, the solvent for latex is normally Ammonia, so shouldn't effect the plasticard. You could try the repositionable spray adhesive - still solvent based, but tends to be a little less aggressive. Paul
