Give the man a chance, he's not got past 2 axles on a vehicle , wagon, van, Nellie, threatening him with 9 on a single build will have him running up the hill faster than Mallard on steroids :avatar:

    We'll,

Never reached the shed today. Dog sitting, mother in law sitting, supermarket run, case to pack, shopping on Amazon for 21st birthday party next weekend. The theme is a beach party ........ in the middle of November ????? ...... ok then, it's hawian shirt and shorts, garlands and beach hat. don't know how I got talked into this one. SWMBO was keen so I thought ...... :scratchchin: this must be worth some shiny vouchers. Followed be a holiday in Krakow in a few weeks time. .... Mmmmmmmm I think I see a Scorpio tank engine and a Clan on its way.

Looks like the shed will be waiting until my return on Friday again where I will make a concerted effort to get the first build complete.

The plan is to get all the brass out the way and then start another and get that to the same stage. Then, deal with all the white Metal with epoxy resin. That way it will make it worth my while mixing up a batch.

    Great stuff.

    Cheers

    Toto

You see good folks of Platform 1 what did I say :avatar::thumbs: now I further predict that our Toto will burn his fingers soldering parts 141, 142, 214 and 215 into place on his Clan loco kit, these items are the under footplate support brackets which are quite difficult to keep in place with clips when soldering.:scratchchin:

Now that you are getting in the swing of things, you may need a better way to transport them

Well back to this old chestnut. I'm annoyed that I've left it so long before revisiting this build but I hit a blocker with this as I came to the commencement of the structural floor element.

It's not rocket science as it's just a load of folded C channel sections that need to go together to form a supporting frame. I have cut out and folded the various sections but bottled out of trying to solder them together ad they are a bit fiddly and need to go together square and flat.

I need to come up with a former or jig to hold the pieces true whilst I go in with the solder. I had a chat with York Paul in this tonight and there is a consensus that I need to take the time to come up with the right idea to fit this job as I have a number of similar wagons from the same stable which the former could be used for. Basically, if it us robust enough, the first wagon ( this one ) would take the hit on the time to make the former and there would be a huge time saving when coming to build the rest, especially if done in a production run of three or four at a time.

With this in mind, tomorrow night will see a former of sorts being constructed to allow me to get past this stage of the build. I officially return to work tomorrow albeit working from home. I dread the email account that I will return to.

Anyway. I concerted push on the former will be my next step and hopefully see me wielding my soldering iron once more. :avatar:

    Onwards and upwards.

    Cheers

    Toto

For expediency of time making a wagon frame jig all that would suffice is a former or jig which supports one central longitudinal channel sections running down the middle of the wagon and the two side cross bracing channels which go from the centre beam to the solebar, the former or jig could also have provision for fixing one of the short centre spans which connect the two middle longitudinal channels together as a pair. As discussed solder up one half of the frame then use the same jig former to solder up the other half then join the two units together and with the aid of a flat stone plate everything should be flat, true and level. Remember to only tack solder pieces together until you are satisfied the sub assembly is correct and seam up with solder as the final step... start at the middle joints and work outwards using a heat sink to avoid distortion of the chassis if it is seamed up out of the jig. The buzz words hear are sub assemblies, take your time and double check everything under good light conditions.
