cmcan wrote: Voting got that covered We Pre voted Friday morning, so all good don't have to wast time doing that tomorrow Was interesting to note several Of the local candidates that don't support the local area they are saying they support local want to represent the local area but by having there PR printed outside the local area big fail I'm my book have a look at the bottom easy to see how is not serious in the printed by line at the bottom of all the PR stuff
I only took a hand full of photos at the Show of Moonan Flats Here is one the Big green machine enters Moonan Flats in the bay is the CPH rail motor and a Racing Gray hound carriage. Attached files
Another photo of the 49 class this time with its weathering It was done with Pan Pastels using the foam applicators that come with the pan colours kit. Took all of a few minutes to get this light covering. It looks much better than the stark new loco look. Attached files
The layout as displayed sorry poor back lighting due to the big glass at the end of the building lucky for the great LED lighting I have on the layout Attached files
Taking Moonan Flats closer to the real location of Moonan Flats well we will drive past the turn off to the Flats on the way to the Exhibition Next exhibition for Moonan Flats is a regional show In Murrurundi on the edge of the Liverpool ranges a little trip up the New England HWY. I will take the Platform1 Banner as well The Murrurundi Model Train Festival 21-22 OCTOBER 2017 Link http://murrurundi.nsw.au/murrurundi-events/murrurundi-model-train-festival/ Attached files
Hi Chris The light weathering on the 49 class certainly looks great. Did you use any fixing over the pan pastel and if so what type? Regards Richard
Davoetype wrote: Hi Richard Thanks for the kind words Re the 49 it hasn't actualy been sealed yet as I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a little more or not At this stage it can all be cleaned off As it is, was a few minutes quick dirty up with the Pan pastels on the Friday before the last exhibition with the foam applicators from the Pan Pastels sets I used 3/4 colours I use a artists fixative from spot light in a pressure pack to fix each layer of the weathering medium, be it pastels, chalks, powers, this helps with building up layers without loosing base colours etc. On a lot of the RTR paint finishes I usualy give it a spray with the fixative first then the Pastels adhere a lot better than when applying direct to the very smooth finishes that are on most new RTR models. To finish, on rolling stock that may be handeled more a light cote of flat varnish. Both Products are Chrystal Kote brand. See photo below that shows the cans. There's some more pan pastel Weathering in the Flickr album link below https://flic.kr/s/aHskCD2mhR It's not hard to do, the hardest part is to actualy start the first model easiest way is to have a Good colour photo in front of you for a bit of inspiration and work up to the final effect. And here's a photo of the Chrystal Kote, fixative / seals along with some other Artists pastels that I use when having a bit of fun devaluing the models. Attached files
Thanks Chris Extremely helpful and I am off to get the Krystal Kote as I already purchased the pastels yesterday. What do you use to remove the pastels if you are not happy with the result? Cheers Richard
Reidy wrote: Yep Isopropyl Alcohol, that’s the go between 40-60% depending on the original base paint. I cut my own from a 100% isopropyl Alcohol bulk supply, I purchased 5.5L bottle for the price of the 250ml from Bunnings, the Bunnings little bottles say 100% but I found it wasn’t compared to the bulk supply nowhere near as potent, Just make sure your not using at full 100% strength to remove or you may remove more than the weathering However that said if you are after a faded paint finish try experimenting with colours a shade or two lighter than the base colour and work in with the aid of isopropyl. This won’t be reversible though Experimenting is the only way you will know what works for you. Remember you don’t have to even start practicing on a model try on some coloured paper etc to see how it works for you. This hopper was given a light rub with a different tone of green then sealed to this toned down the bright green the rest of the colours where over layered then a powedered effect for spilt grain around the hopper top hatch. http://www.click Attached files
Thanks Chris Looks like I will have a lot of fun getting my pristine looking lococ into something more appropriate. Cheers Richard
