I need to push ahead with the OO Tom let alone starting in O but seeing these pictures make it very tempting
Ok it's been a little bit since anything happened at Moonan Flats time to start doing some work on it and it's rolling stock to be ready for the Exhibition in June. First off and this will please Ian Coupler replacement for the 20class loco, a coupler was made for the rear of the loco it's a Hybrid Procraft Knuckle /Kadee Shank this is to get the length from the mount point, so the Knuckle is forward of the buffers will make shunting easier. New Louver Van for Moonan Flats Next item tackled this afternoon was to add another item of rolling stock to the roster it's A 4 wheel LV = Louver Van, they were straight to the point with wagon coding in NSW. It's a mixed media kit Plastic, white metal, brass parts. Got it to this stage rolling, coupler's on started on the basic detail parts like lamp irons and tie loops. Next to do is the under side detail all the brake rodding, shoes and hardware. New Louver Van for Moonan Flats New Louver Van for Moonan Flats The chassis under frame is designed for a dummy coupler supplied with the kit to screw in a small slot so a standard procraft box won't fit luckily the only part of the box needed is the center part so cut down and it fits in the slot between the chassis beams nicely. New Louver Van for Moonan Flats With the wagon rolling I did a little shunting to test it out before all the underside detail gets added just to make sure it was all good. Hi Chris, Did you hear any more about getting the stand side by side with Gary in your June exhibition ? I'll look forward to hear how you guys get on. Toto
Nice van Chris. I do like the coupler on the loco. It will be nice to have one less 3 link requiring a match truck. Ian
paul_l wrote: I did say Ian would be pleased. What he really wants is a knuckle on the front of the loco as well but the real loco didn't have one so the model isn't getting one There are a few wagons with knuckle and link transition coupler's so the Locos with hook only can couple to the train makes a bit more of a challenge as the shunter has to get that truck in the right spot and leave one as the last move of the previous shunt accessible in case the next train in is a Hook only loco. Thanks everyone for the comments Did the fiddly bits on the LV van this afternoon. The body to chassis brackets, brake gear lots of bits of wire run from end to end Made up some brake hangers lots of drilling holes to mount bits then put in the safety loops that would catch the rodding if it failed, to stop it dragging on the track. What is left 2 coupler cut rod and a chain from the hand brake to the brake cylinder rod. Can't find the chain I got a few weeks ago for this job. And buffers I will have to order some as I don't have the correct ones. O and paint and weather Seems like there's more work left to do than I have done.
some wonderful detail going on there Chris, I'm looking forward to the painting and weathering Cheers Matt
paul_l wrote: Sorry Paul got on a roll and didn't stop to take any as I went just the one at the end And thought it would be a bit boring seeing bits of bent wire on the bench I will do a step by step when I paint and weather promise! Here is one I prepared earlier it's a bit clearer with the gray body material to see all the bits. Attached files
leadie69 wrote: No Ian didn't make the brakes on the LV van work as as it is Realised how stupid that was, as no one really knows that the working ones work will only do that again for a competition wagon. I have to build some thing good before September to enter the National Model Railroad Association modelling comp as the convention is semi local again.
Toto wrote: Sorry Toto forgot to reply to the exhibition side by side bit. Not sure yet last email I got from the organiser was they would do their best to rearrange the hall if they could make it work. I'll send a email and ask the question .
