My Pal Pete, changed from 00 to N in the late 70's early 80's, before I moved to Dundee, and ended up changing from a dyed in the mouth LMS fan to GWR, as his only options at the time were a Lima 4F tender drive, or Graham Farish 94xx and Halls - no brainer unfortunately :whatever:

I must admit some of the N gauge RTR loco's comming out now are impressive, if I could see them :giggle:

Really nice photo's of the Grange, take off the brass safety cover swap the tender and it could almost look like a real loco :avatar:

Oh and I still wind Pete up about his fickle loyalties - saying that its almost 40 years he's being modelling GWR - I tell him to keep taking the pills and one day he should get better.

So, taking pills is a requirement for modelling the GWR then ?? :avatar:

    Cheers, Gary.

    Hello folks,

Sorry I've been a bit quiet of late, lost the Mojo bit after being made redundant in April.

I have been running trains but things of greater importance have taken precedence and no progress has been made on the layout... Until today.

Before I get on to that there HAS been a new addition to the Carmathen shed in the form of a GWR "2301" class Dean Goods 0-6-0 tender engine from Union Mills Models Ltd.

A hand crafted solid little runner with immense pulling power, it was a "what would you like" birthday present from T.

Here it is leading a train of empty cattle wagons down the valley to the cattle market at Newcastle Emlyn.

A shaft of light afternoon winter sunlight made its way down the hall and into the layout room. All I had was the camera on the iPhone but I couldn't resist taking a photo while the sun was shining.

    More soon...

    Cheers

    Marty

Double cracker there Marty, the loco and the photo.

Hopefully you have or will sort the employment situation soon, fingers crossed.

Good to see the mojo is finding its way back tho.

    All the best

    Thanks Tom, Paul and Chris,
I could be filling out paperwork or....
    Here's a bit more....
There is nothing like simply messing about with ground gloop!
Mother has always been concerned that the farmer owning the fields on top of the scenic break between Henllan and the Mill couldn't access his fields.
A pleasant day was spent rectifying this and a farm track has been cut into the hillside.
This is where it is going to go.

After a bit of surgery the hardshell landform is cut away to allow for some landscaping.

And now rebuilt with the muddy, narrow track winding along the face of the hill. It's still drying 24 hours later but it has been 3°C here overnight so that's not surprising.

At the base of the track it meets the Heol Y Bedw just before the road crosses the railway on a bridge. I'm thinking a gate, grass, hedgerow, wilderness, trees.

At the top the farmer has been busy collecting hay from the top field and has left a clear track. (Early days yet, it will be toned down and weathered into the field a bit more.)

Looking forward to throwing some vegetation at it once it dries.
    cheers
    Marty

That does look great Marty, but that is not unusual, it's what we expect from you !! I do like the wheel tracks across the field, very muddy indeed. Top job.

    Cheers, Gary.

Many thanks for the encouragement Paul, Ian, Kim, Chris and Gary.

It's nice too be back modelling.

What bit of modelling are you interest in Kimbo? The landform building method? I didn't take any construction progress photos this time as my fingers were covered in gloop but I do have some from a previous build that shows the process I use.

In the meantime I have finally fixed the Llandyfriog Junction plank relay that has been holding me back... But then you guys probably don't know about the junction plank build so I'd better show you some pictures of that.

In my first post you can see the location of Riverbank Siding in my layout plan. The first track ever laid I was eventually unhappy with the tight reverse curve and short passing loop and decided to replace it with something more useful... And much more complex electrically it turns out.

In the photo below the replacement junction plank is upside down next to the track bed of the original sidings.

    Eventually it looks like this...

With code 55 Peco track and points, electro frog points wired for polarity switching and a control panel with point direction indicated by bicolour LEDs it was a big step up for me.

But... The double sided sticky tape used to hold the relays to the underside of the plank just didn't do the job and on of the relays disconnected and ended up looking like this.

Short wires and a confined space made it a right :bleep6: to get back in place without taking the plank off again and it was only yesterday that I got it wired up and operational again.

Back on track and right away.

    Looking very impressive Marty.

I could look at your woodwork all day. Very neat and tidy looking.
Glad to see you have got back into things.

Having the same issue with bits dropping, what have you used to attach the relay in place this time Marty ?

    Really impressive build.

I like wood work too
Sticky backed velcro this time, stuck to the pine cross beam rather than the underside of the MDF plank, should stay put this time. style
    cheers
