This arrived in the post the other day whilst I was working up North. It an 0-4-0 Industrial Tank Locomotive kit by Connoisseur Models.
The boiler comes pre - rolled although the instructions ( down loadable as a PDF from the site regardless of purchase ) make provision for telling you how to roll it.
The motor has to be bought separately, I opted for the recommended Mashima 1833 motor as supplied by Connoisseur.
The wheel are ordered from Slaters and the exact part No is provided on the Connoisseur site.
    here is what you get.

and the motor and gear kit.

I'll pop some pictures of the build up when the time comes. I intend starting with a low mac wagon kit purchased from Connoisseur also to get me a bit of experience with the soldering of etched brass before attacking the loco.
The kit does look pretty easily assembled ( forgetting the soldering for a moment ) with many of the parts having either slots of locating holes etc to keep you right.
Any questions on the kit ...... please feel free to ask.
    cheers
    Toto.

it really does look reasonably straight forward. A little bit of practice with sweating solder joins, the use of liquid flux ( Carr's green ) , tinning and away I'll go.
the Low Mac's will be my first conquest. :avatar:

    cheers

Is that the sound of sizzling sausages on the barbie, or Toto's fingers on the soldering iron :avatar:

Nice looking kit, you never know, quite fancy building Nellie.

I'd like to get my own etched name plates made up. Gypsy and Buds. One with Ollie as well.

    Nice kit Toto.
    Lessons:
1: Remove all lacquer from the etches before you solder.
    2: Take your time
3: Be careful with fold lines. They don't like being manipulated too many times otherwise you end up with two pieces.
4: Drill all holes to the right size with the bits on the fret. Saves a lot of searching on the floor for anything that drops.

Might even get one of these for myself. I have a small rake of wagons somewhere here.
    Good Luck with the build.

Know that feeling well Paul. That is why when I am working with really small pieces (and there a lot on the Mallard build), I do everything over one of those plastic meat trays from the supermarket.

    Well,
I was expecting a delivery of paint to be awaiting me at the post office this morning but no ....... it was this lot.

for my loco kit ........ Slaters driving wheels ....... and ......

a set of 6 plunger pick ups.
They had been sitting there for two days so apologies for my last comment moaning about the time taken for delivery. It looks like the paint will take a bit longer. poissibly due to the nature of the contents.
    anyway ...... thanks slaters.
    cheers

:scratchchin: ....... Just thinking ( either a bit of a novelty or dangerous for me ) but these plunger pick ups could have a variety of uses for taking power to wagons as well as loco's ......:scratchchin:
Need to confer with the Maestro but I'm thinking auto uncoupling, lights, and more.
    just a thought.
    cheers

Now just which scale are you thinking about.

Plungers need a frame to stick through.

I'd been having another look at this kit tonight and I'm thinking of starting this tomorrow.

What do you folks use as a work surface when soldering wagon or loco kits. I thought about a sheet of toughened glass.

I've sent away for a wooden chassis jig but that won't be here any time soon.

    Cheers

    Toto

I can do that first Ron,

I'm all for taking requests. :avatar: I have the track at the canal to sort out.

I have Paul visiting today, he won't mind what I'm doing. He get a laugh either way. :avatar:

Track it is. The kit can wait a bit longer.

    Cheers
