Now I'm posting this drawing of the proposed livery arrangement for a green Hymek, the spec is identical for the Class 55 Deltic as well but what may be of use is the roof detailing because this is an exact scale drawing and shows where everything is. The livery consultants commissioned by the British Railways Board were a design company called Wilkes and Ashmore and this is what they came up with for the Hymek and Deltic. These original drawings are held in the archives at the NRM York and can be seen by appointment, easy for those of us living in York but not for others living in far away parts... which is why I'm putting this up. Enjoy Kimbo.
cheers for now Paul. (York Paul)

PRMRP now also do turned light surrounds, I used them recently on a Warship conversion.

Hi Steve, I've just had a quick squint on their website and cannot see these, maybe they haven't updated their product list yet. What do I need to ask for? I've stripped away much of the smaller PRMRP white metal casts supplied with the Hymek detailing kit and replaced them with JLTRT equivalents.cheers for now York Paul

Thanks Steve I'll ring them for an order, yes I need to get back on with the Hymek project and bring it to a conclusion. Interestingly at our last club running day a chap from Goole brought a Heljan Hymek along so I was able to compare profile differences between the models, what jumped out at me was the cab roof curvature on the BBT version is of a shallower radius and sits about 1mm lower beneath the main engine roof roof casing, also the forward cab windows do not have such a pronounced "vee".The conclusion amonst the chaps there was that unless you were particularly looking for such detail it wouldn't be quite so noticeable when finished. As you know I have completely reshaped the windscreens along with cab roof edge from their original Triang guise and that made a world of difference to the loco's appearance but the whole thing is a labour of love. I'm just hoping for good news regarding JLTRT after Easter as I wish now I'd bought additional detailing pieces from them.

Resurrecting this thread from the dead because every time I go up into the model room this converted Triang BBT Hymek just stares me in the face, well today I though what the heck lets get you into grey primer and see what needs doing. So I did and surprisingly beyond a touch of stoppering here and there nothing else is needed and since both bogies are complete not much else is needed to get this one over the line... a back burner project it will be and a test bed for flexing muscles on loco airbrushing skills as D5310 is quickly coming up over the horizon for painting.

Just ordered Rail Blue... it was going to be green but there is too much masking off and counter masking to be undertaken for that livery, I just need to reacquaint my loco painting skills so this is the test bed for the BRCW loco paint up. It will get finished.

Hi there Gloria thanks for the nice comment and interest it is much appreciated... now I'll let you into a little secret but don't tell anyone else :avatar: Kimbo is the only other person who knows this :avatar: but I have another Hymek body to convert at some point. Seriously a very nice engine and sadly missed, indeed aesthetically so much nicer than the current design school thinking. I saw a lot of them in the early seventies at Portsmouth & Southsea ... they worked Cardiff Portsmouth Waterloo services as I seem to remember but I could be wrong there. This one will be D7044 and has been greatly reworked from a Triang toy using detailing components, I stopped work on the second one principally because JLTRT went into liquidation which meant I was unable to buy in the components needed to make a detailed model, thus it all came to a stop, things moved on and I refocused on steam builds and now the Highlander Models involvement came about. Anyway D7044 will be completed and I did change my mind to turn it out in Blue but you may well have swayed me back into doing a green livery paint.:tophat:Anyway thanks Gloria for your support and please do keep us up to date with developments on your wonderful Serpentine & Pasty Railway project.

    regards, York Paul

Thanks Andy, I've been rummaging through the various spares boxes finding all the bits to complete this loco... its stood silent for far too long so its a bit of a "sandwich" project ... a time filler between other things.

All I can see is a very solid loaf of bread, currently deeply buried in the middle, I don't have time to slice it, let alone put some filler in! :avatar:

Were on earth do you get all this time?

Even when I eventually retire, I doubt the days will be long enough!
I have a soft spot for Hymek's, always remind me of Ford Anglia's, I think its the Z profile.:)

I don't recommend this bread Mr Timber the taste of cured Araldite mixed in with crunchy white metal marinated in the reside of flux isn't the kind of food Lumsdonians want to take with them on their weekend break to the Windmill Holiday Cottage. :avatar: I owned a Ford Anglia once years ago, it was always a very reliable motor which never broke down but then it wasn't hydraulic. Having said that the Hymek was a very modern locomotive in its time and the design still looks sleek today when compared to the tasteless shape of the GM Class 70 which resembles an overweight tamping machine:avatar:
