Hi all, I'll repeat my photos here: This'll be one of my two repurposed buildings. Having a baby in the house seriously limits my time but, I've got until Xmas! Matt
So I thought I'd share my inspiration for one of my two repurposed buildings. I came across this photo while browsing online a while ago and thought it was interesting. I think the water tank on top adds an extra dimension to a standard grounded van body. http://philsworkbench.blogspot.com/2013/12/ipswitch-docks-grounded-van-body.html?m=1 So the ends, taken from a Parkside van, will form the basis of my model. As I don't have sides, I'll fashion these from plastic and offcuts of corrugated sheet - I had another pic of a van where the sides had been replaced like this but can't find it now. My scene will be of some kind of workshop area, although I've not decided if it'll be rail or car related yet. Matt
Some time tonight while the baby slept was spent making a start on things. Ventilators on the ends have been knocked up from offcuts of plastic sheet. And what look like white rectangles stuck to some cardboard is actually pieces of corrugated plastic. Of course I won't need this many but I'll paint and weather them all then mix and match for the random rustiness I'm after. Matt
I realised I'd forgotten about the windows, and hadn't cut holes in the sides. I'm going for something less "modern" than in the link above. Rather than cut holes and weaken the structure, I've just painted behind in black and stuck the glazing on top - for a building this small, I really don't think it makes much difference. And here's a mock up of how the sides will look (although not yet trimmed) Matt
Very sensible! Trust me, having cut a few windows in that 2mm thick Wills card, you have made the right decision!
I'm not sure I'm going to be able to finish my entry in time... modelling time is really limited at the moment and what little time I do get is being spent on the crane. Things might change but this may become a three horse race! Matt
