so i can confirm that a layout is never finished....... i found a hornby WD tanker at a exhibition and i couldnt resist buying it, however it obviously needed weathering. so here it is freshly weathered and looking the part.
Hi Jimmy, Any chance of a couple of photos detailing how you dealt with the infill of the points and track ? Cheers Toto
so i have been asked how i did the points, well i cheated a little. basically from research i found that points where not always completely buried in cobbles, as if anything went wrong with the point mechanism they needed to be albe to fix it. so i laid the clay and the sets upto the actual point blades. i then used wills plastic card (wood effect) to go between the moving blades. i had to make a paper template first as the point has to be able to move both ways and still leave room for the wheel flanges. now this took a lot of effort to get right. but i think the final result actually looks realistic.
Having seen this layout on the Peterborough FB Group as a 'live' build I have to agree this is a lovely layout
Thanks for solving the points mystery Jimmy. I can't single out one single favourite layout, it's too difficult on here as there are a number of really commendable layouts but this is right up there with the best. Again, thank you so much for showcasing Operation Abyss on Platform1. This is the kind of stuff that people draw so much inspiration from. Cheers Toto
I have received an email from Model Rail Magazine stating that your layout will be featured in the next issue ! Awesome news. Cheers, Gary.
Congrats Jimmy on your layout getting published - is that the correct term??? Do you get a copy of all the photos taken that weren't published? Will be perusing the issue Cammero
Yes I have had all the photos since they where taken but have been unable to post them until the article has been published
