Good morning everyone, Thought I would try and post some photos of our garden railway here in Cornwall, as I promised some members I would take some so here they are I hope. Regards, Gloria.
Hi Ivan, Thank you ever so much. Yes for a small garden its surprising what you can do with it. There is a quarry road to be built yet which is on the grass side of the greenhouse. Like all railways there always things to add.Was hoping to make another video, sorry to say the weather is against us. My partner built the turntable from scratch, where that is situated is the prepping area. It us actually a pit that is dug out with steps going down into it. A lot of work but well worth it. Thank you also for the thumbs up. Kindest regards, Gloria.
Hi Ian, I have missed out a photo am sending it to you.it's the other part of our garden, Regards, Gloria.
Its all looking great Gloria . When the weather improves (and its looking decidedly dodgy in your neck off the woods!!) and you can shoot another video you will have to let us know when its on youtube. Cheer's, Pete.
Hi Pete, Will do probably be after Peterborough Show now. We are attending some vintage rallies down here in the summer, and Exeter Garden Railway Show hopefully with our demonstration track . WIl keep you informed. Regards, Gloria.
Nice video... fantastic p-way as that was a very stable film. That or you have a good gimble to keep it smooth.
Hi Andy, Thank you ever so much for your kind words. It was taken with a gopro. placed on a wagon the track was laid then checked by my partner who did the donkey work.Made sure it was level with no bumps or divots. We have had lots of comments from a lot of people who visited us when we had steam ups. We havent officially opened our track up as yet as there is more work to do with buildings and signals.Just trial runs really. Regards, Gloria
Hi Everyone, Just an update at what's been happening here in Cornwall. Last Friday 22nd February we had a steam up at one of our members newly constructed railway. Although the weather was cold and overcast a great day was had by our Cornish Group. We are hoping to have a steam up this week on our own railway, where tea coffees, and Cornish Pasties will be provided if required. The forecast says dry fine and warmish so see what happens Will try and post some photos when they are passed over to me. Regards, Gloria.
Hi Gloria Just catching up with your thread as I have been on holiday and then a bit unwell. Really like what I have seen but could you give us all a bit more background on the development of your garden layout and what your design principles are? I am sure that something as impressive as your achievements to date did not happen overnight. Do you have any historic development pics you would like to share? Regards and happy modelling Richard
Hi Richard, So sorry to hear you have been poorly especially after a holiday hope you are feeling better. Also thank you for your reply to my update. There is no specific design its something my partner decided to build. As we live on the most southerly point in Cornwall where pasties are our main dish and where serpentine is found on beaches to make ornaments and jewellery also in cliff faces. Our railway we named the Pasty and Serpentine Light Railway P.S.LR for short.after them. We are off to Peterborough Garden Railway Show which is held on the East of England Showground in April.A gentleman that we know sells buildings which he makes himself so will be buying a row of low relief cottages to make a small village.I am in the midst of building a carriage shed which is shown in one of my photos, my partner is building a Brazil Loco from scratch plus a workshop and a loco shed which is featured on YouTube the work on those buildings is still on going hopefully completed soon once the weather gets better. Our railway is open to all visitors anybody on the forum is welcome to a visit. There will be more photos posted as work progresses. I will take some photos of our pasties and serpentine so that people can see what our railway is based on and called.sometime this week. Will keep you informed Richard is that ok with you. My kindest regards, Gloria. .
Great images. Looks like you have a major project there. I also like the turntable. Really good. Cheers Toto
Hi Toto, Not sure if it was meant for me your reply, if it was thank you ever so much. The turntable isn't quite finished as yet the bridge has been made and used , as it was inclement weather here I didn't put the bridge up on it. Wednesday we are hoping for a steam up with some of our group members.Hopefully will have some photos. Regards, Gloria
Hi Pete, I am ever so sorry about that , ours are true proper job pasties made locally.Well if you can make a visit on your travels you are welcome to a pasty. Gloria.
Thanks Gloria and I look forward to your further postings. Sounds like you have a similar approach to what I use on my Dargan layout, ie, generally Blue Mountains of New South Wales but with a lot of freedom to put in things that I like provided it meets the era. Good luck with the pasties as last time I was there I recall a continuing battle with the aggressive seagulls. Cheers and happy modelling Richard
Good morning Richard, Thank you ever so much for your reply. We are using our natural garden for scenery except for buildings. About seagulls we don't get that problem here thank goodness as our village does not allow the feeding of them, Just waiting on our members now for numbers to see how many pasties required to order. Will keep posting of what's going on in our neck of the woods. We have a busy year coming up with railway shows and steam rallies. We have been invited to take our portable railway to them so that should be good. All food and drinks are supplied by us free of charge as people travel quite a distance to visit us, as its only fair.Happy modelling to you as well. Speak soon Richard take care . Regards, Gloria.
Hi Everyone, It's our steam up day today, Just waiting for our members to arrive, so in the meantime I thought I would post a couple of photos to show what it looks like with all the models on display. Gloria.
