As I continue my little quest of obtaining all sorts of little nick-nacks, items, stock, and materials. I've realised that I don't have anything to scratch build buildings. Where do you prefer to source these materials? Off the top of my head, I am looking for brass beams, styrene (?) and..., you know. The little wood bits. Balsa?. I'm still a little loaded on endone after a recent operation. Next month my partner and I will be building a small diarama, just to test a few methods. Have some fun. So we'll include a building or two, garden and some nice scenery. So I'll throw that up as evidence that I am working towards starting the Sydney Central Plank on my Short North layout (Coming Soon[sup]TM[/sup]) Edit: Eckersleys Newcastle - Nice and close, as well as Frontline Hobbies, and Barnes Hobbies being located nearby.
Evergreen do an extensive range of styrene parts. https://evergreenscalemodels.com/ K&S do a good range in Brass, Copper & Alluminium tube, bar, flat, profiles, sheet, wire and films. http://www.ksmetals.com/ Plastic Card, I normally get from either Slaters Plasticard or StationRoad Baseboards https://slatersplastikard.com/ http://www.stationroadbaseboards.co.uk/cart_plastic.htm For cardboard - I get 2mm to 3mm thick card from my local craft shop, thinner card is normally cereal boxes (warning bran flakes are hard going to empty the box, but do provide plenty of time to sit and ponder on the solution to the problem ). I also use embossed water colour paper and print Scalescenes, SmartModels and ModelRailwayScenery Texture papers on to them. This provides some relief to a flat surface. https://scalescenes.com/scratchbuilders-yard/ http://www.smartmodels.co.uk/index.html http://www.modelrailwayscenery.com/ Then there is always the plotter cutter, which by changing the cutter head can drawer, cut or emboss your own custom designs - mine is a KnK Zing, I believe they also now sell a version that can take a motorised cutting head as well as the standard pen, cutter and embossing heads. I'd be building now if I had the supplies, I've come out of hospital and I've had nothing to do. Locally, other than the 3 model stores, there is Eckersleys, so I'll be paying them a visit to see what they've got. Otherwise, I'd be going with the evergreen products.
Try MRRC Blacktown. They have an excellent on line store although I shop there in person. They carry a very large and extensive range of detail parts and just about every type of plastic timber or brass you could ever need.

As per facebook, I've just put an order in with BNA model world. Unfortunately in the time it took to make my order, they sold out of two styrene products I wanted. I must be slow in my youth... Also ordered some door/window frames from Tichy Train Group
Grandt Line is another supplier of doors and windows. They offer different windows, doors, gates etc to Tichy Train Group, although I will say some product from TTG are a copy of GL, just a different code (product) number. I use both TTG and GL. Casula Hobbies has a good selection of TTG and GL. ps, I mentioned on FB that Casula Hobbies have a good range of Data Sheets... NSW Goods Handling : http://www.casulahobbies.com.au/catalog/index.php?cPath=1124&osCsid=374991d50adc98e45809cf2e7800c4ae NSW Station & Lineside : http://www.casulahobbies.com.au/catalog/index.php?cPath=878 Cheers, Gary.
Thanks Gary, I was just about to go looking for them. Do they have them for viewing at the shop?, no images online. Might stop in when I'm in sydney next month
Veers......at Eckersleys you will pay top dollar and then some more. Example....12 sheets of A4 aluminium foil as in aluminium baking trays I think was around $ 100. 12 aluminium baking trays = about $ 13.00..... Hard to believe....but there you are. http://www.clickGormo
The Data Sheets are there to look at only at the shop, not online. I used them a lot once when modelling NSWGR, particularly trestle bridges (road and rail), station buildings, goods sheds and the round house ! Cheers, Gary.
Railcar looks like it will be closing their doors in Feb/March 2018 if the don't find a buyer... Cheers, Gary.
Thanks Guys You certainly have give me some options to look at. And now good night as at 12.15 pm I have done too much modelling or as Gormo says, time to pack it in. Cheers Richard
