While watching a layout build video the gentleman was using a new product where you mix the pva powder into your ballast of choice and just mist it with water and it set over night. Has anyone on the forum used this and is it any good.:scratchchin:

Yes I've heard of this product but never used it personally, I also heard good reports about it ... if that helps.

:hismiley:Thanks Toto and Yorkie for your replies. Now do I either try the new stuff or do I do my ballasting the tried and tested way.

Kevin... why not trial both products and see which one works best for you. In my experience of ballasting depending on layout size more that one bottle / dispenser / bag will be needed. When I built my O Gauge layout Elton Crossing I got through about eight 500ml bottles of Ballast Magic over three tracks fitted to a board 12' 6" in length.

Cascamite? We used to use it a school and also remember doing a desert airfield model back in the 1990’s to glue sand down. You then just spray water on and let it soak in.

Andy thanks for your reply. I'm not to sure about using it as I still like the original way for ballasting.

Quite good providing you get the penetration. (With the water) and sets just as hard.

I wet the gravel with IPA as the wetting agent, works perfectly and is by far the cheapest way (especially important with larger layouts). I have not heard bad stuff about any of the proprietary products, but as Paul says, but why pay a premium for something that has no advantage, unless its for convenience on a smaller layout.
The demo of IPA (same effect) is shown in my Load How To video

Cascamite "One Shot" certainly isn't a 'new' product Andy, I recall using it in the late 50's/early 60's in woodwork classes at school after the new Woodwork teacher moved on from his predecessors 'Horse bone glue!':giggle:
