I though I'd start this thread as an aid for all modelers who may have a need to see evidence of specific details, I not sure if this is the right location to post this into, maybe Toto and the Mods may like to consider having a dedicated location just for research evidence and fact finding? Anyway as folks know I'm building the North British Class 21 kit and a recent query on the build thread concerned the matter of roof panel lifting lugs and where and what did they look like. As chance would have it I found this picture which appears to have been shared across the internet via sites like Pinterest so I cannot acknowledge the original photographer, the picture is D6142 at Inverurie shed in May 1966 having recently been given a fresh coat of Loco Green paint. Now in the foreground look at the line of removed Class 21 roof panels showing rivet detail and edge strips, interestingly the radiator panel has the small foot tread fitted in front of the grill and the cylinder head access hatch (foreground right) shows small lifting hooks fitted. The roof repaint on D6142 is interesting too since it shows up the main lifting hook positions on the removable panel covering the steam heat boiler, electrical cubicle and radiator.
Sounds a great idea for a section. I know a fair bit about NSW practice and things, but there is much that I don't know. But my lack of knowledge overseas is hampering me in my current build, being a British layout. I do have plans for a US layout somewhere down the track, I will need to find out lots for that, but that's a fair way down the track. It is good to have a place where questions on this can be freely asked, there are some things that can't be googled (is that a word?) but stored in the best computer we know (the collective ones between ears) an answer can come really quickly that is perfectly tailored to the question. My caution with making more sections is that you can get too many. One of the many attractions to me of this forum was seemly less sections than some others, just didn't know here to start looking with them, and it all seemed too complicated, especially for someone starting out again. Look forward to the threads. Cheers Tony
Hi Tony, We try to limit the growth of sections as much as possible and also try and avoid duplication. If there is something that is genuinely missing though, we are happy to add it if relevant enough. Sometimes we can also maybe put a subject in an inappropriate section when we create it. Maybe it's not really the most logical place to put it. We are open to comments and suggestions on that as well because after all, this is everybodies forum so we want to try and let everyone have their say. ( as much as practically possible). Thanks for your comments and feed back.it is appreciated. Cheers Toto
