Looking for a 4mm nut, bolt and washer ...... something so very simple. Could be a visit to the tool station or screw fix tomorrow then. I'm thinking of fitting a fence across the steellate as well to use for something to holdpieces up against whilst soldering. To be decided.

    Cheers

You are going to like the RSU Toto
My one has developed a issue with the power on relay (not a Same brand as yours) stays on all the time no foot control, but is still working ok
I’d also made up a Ground cable with a alligator clip, for grounding for those jobs that the grounding plate is not suitable for, like fitting small cast details parts to the body it easy to clip the ground to the body and hold at a angle in a cradle that’s easy to fit the part rather than having on the ground plate

    Hi Chris,

I have thought of making another lead up to change with for allowing grounding via some kind of clip directly onto the body of the kit. I'll order some silicone cable up and an appropriate sized banana plug.

A visit to tool station today ...... nuts, bolts and washers. Various sizes from 3mm to 6mm. Apart from the job in hand, they'll be handy to have in stock. Hopefully get my ground plate finished today in between the domestics.

ASDA to visit to get supplies for tomorrow. The folks are round for mummsies birthday. An annual event. :avatar: and a pot of tattie soup to be made...... then, hopefully, the shed.

    See you guys later

One of these might be handy, attached with M6 countersunk screw and nut to a crimp lug, makes an easy fix to your plate, or a bench box or even the piece with a bit of steel behind it, if its non ferrous.

If you use two magnets, one with the grounding wire attached, and the magnets either side of the model, should give a good connection.

I bought some pot magnets some time ago. They are so strong, I can't get them apart. :whatever:

They are a decent size as well. I'll see if I can find them ..... they're somewhere safe. :whatever: also got various nuts, bolts and washers today for securing the grounding wire crimp to the plate. Won't get any where near it until Sunday though. The RSU will eventually get it's trial run. :avatar:

4mm silicone coated copper cable for additional grounding leads just arrived via Amazon. Also additional 4mm banana plugs. I can now use various contraptions to provide different grounding options.

I'll do the nana plug connections later. I need a good strong sprung bulldog clip that will take solder. Not sure if the usual sprung steel will take a good soldered connection.

    Anyone tried this before ?

    Cheers

I'v just ordered up a couple of pair of these clamps £1.90 a pair, you could attach them to the plate / MDF base, pressure is adustable, and if required you could place the grounding wire between the rubber end and the model. Mine will probably use a 18mm piece of MDF.

"Car Vehicle Battery Charger Crocodile Alligator Booster Clip Clamp Testing" will bring up 100A like your jump leads, but they do a 5, 25 and 50 crocodile clip

"Crocodile Clips Alligator Clip Small Medium Large 5amp 25amp 50amp Battery Test" or 30A round type like the jump leads
    example

I would suggest a welders earth clamp, but they are very bulky!

Well suggested. .. but I'm ahead of you ...... they are too big and would distort the brass plate. When I get my clips through, the theory is to solder some flat brass plate over the teeth to give a smooth, flat gripping surface to clamp onto the model etch that won't mark the model.

and I am one step beyond :squint:, replace the brass plate with copper, it will give better conductivity  (like real welding earth clamps) :tophat:

    Well,

I am not long up recovering from my slumber. Had all the oldies around yesterday including the Dragon in law. A good night but the brandy was flowing a little freer than I thought it would.

Contemplating going for a shower in a bid to sharpen myself up a bit.

I will hit the shed to sort out a base for my ground plate. I'll need the heater on as it's Baltic here today. May need the company of a can of beer ..... hair of the dog.:avatar:

    Have a nice day

Stormed the shed ...... All the bits I need .....

more bolts than a big boltery

silicone cable and banana plugs ........

one end done. Cut, beared, inserted, soldered and reassembled. i am going to do a quick search in my odds and ends as i am sure I have a medium duty crocodile clip somewhere for the other end of the lead. I am also looking through the timber off cuts for a suitable baseboard to take my ground plate ..... back soon.

    cheers

    now,

    onto the ground plate .......

sourced a bit of 9mm plywood which is the ideal size.

    Cut to size ......

plate bored and bolted onto the ground plywood and the ground lead connection bolt connected directly to the sheet steel plate with big washers on each side.

and the ground lead bolted in place .....

and on the bench awaiting its first fright.

    back later .....
