I hadn't realised there were so many trailer options. Oxford do nice 1:76 models of both the Scarab, and its predecessor. the mechanical horse. Jim
I can certainly remember these Scarab's (and the 20 mph plate on the back!) from my youth. As I recall, many had a 'dual-fuel' ability, starting on petrol and switching to paraffin once running, a wartime conversion I gather, as petrol was a rationed commodity back then. Also nice to see the big Scammel on the right in the last few shots, I can remember one or two local 'Heavy Haulage' firms having those, and a Sheffield firm (Harrisons as I recall) running those big trucks well into the 1960's. (Showing my age now!) Keith.
Here you are Toto... its 1.50 scale but not noticably overscale for O Gauge, Corgi do a couple of different livery versions with include the blood and custard inter station parcel service, the grey raifrieght and the later yellow pre NCL version. I've go one on my layout and apart from the dropside trailor it would have been nice if they'd made the more common flatbed version. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CORGI-SCAMMELL-SCARAB-BRITISH-RAILWAYS-No-97911-1-50-SCALE/222733633536?hash=item33dbf58800:g:~GkAAOSwwAdaAGqJ
Actually, Paul, 1:50th is slightly underscale for O Gauge. Having said that, 1:50th is the usual scale used for trucks and buses, for some reason, while cars tend to be 1:43 scale (more true scale for British O Gauge).
Gee thanks for correcting me on that glaring mistake SR Man, of course goodness knows what I was thinking theredyslexia was always my strong point cheers Paul
Corgi 1/50th scale arrived today. needs some toning down and a bit of weathering I think?? Quite pleased with it, just need to build a 7mm narrow gauge layout now!!
