Also been working on a set of bogies to go under the MCE 12 wheeler
currently needing a set of transvers leaf springs did have some 3D printed ones but some one that got a kit for the last car the TAM said they didn't get any in there 2 kits :scratchchin: I know they were with the kits as only had enough made to cover the kits and 2 spare sets, so had to give them the only spares so have to get some more :hammer:

The previously built TAM 12 wheeler has 2 variations on the bogie parts and this car will get the same combo due to not having all the 3D parts one bogies will have cast axle boxes the other the 3D printed ones
Really should swap a bogie from the TAM when these are painted so they are both the same. Cast Vs 3D parts

Very nice work, Chris. It would seem you may have built the MCE a bit more like the prototype than intended. I've been involved in restoring some 72'6" cars, and the windows are just as much (if not more) troublesome to fit and assemble, though there's a few extra parts involved (nearly 1100 fittings and screws required for just one TAM :faint:), all of which require careful matching and fettling to make it all work

Thanks Evan yes putting a piece of clear plastic behind the windows wouldn't look right so the crown light is slightly thicker than the window glass so as to sit forward as you know the main window goes up behind the crown light

The TAM has 98 windows I think but the laser cut bits that I used when I built the TAM where a much better fit than the ones for the MCE I think the laser cutter may not have got the setting right

Thanks Kim for the kinds words

As for reference this is a TAM car as refered to by Evan
Ps just counted the TAM windows and its 98:facepalm:

Thanks Kim my Back is one of those things I can't really tell when it's going to give trouble
It's held together with Titanium, carbon fibre and some other exotic metals I'm guessing the long day (funeral) and a bit of a change in the weather has not helped.

Ok so have been doing too much modelling for other people so just after dinner tonight I though I would make a start on a kit build for my own layout.
It's only a 4 wheel wagon "S Truck" is the coding and also what they were known as locally, the Strucks were the most common wagon on the NSWGR system number exceeded 10,000 so I guess you can never have enough Strucks on a layout :avatar:

This is what the kit parts look like

The S truck kit body parts are injection moulded plastic
And on initial inspection looked quite good
I cleaned up the spru marks and started a test fit the sides locate in slots in the end pannels a great idea that aids construction until a close look was taken nothing quite fitted right so some trimming was needed a little filing a few test fits then it was out with the plastic glue and it all went together nice and square,
Next was to assemble the floor pannel 2 centre ribs, 2 sole bars a round cap and 2 spacers for the centre ribs that also form the coupler mounting base.
The floor then simply glues into the body making sure it was even all round.
Next came the corners there's an etched brass cover for each corner that needed folding at 90' on the centre line but with no etched line on the back some care was needed to find the centre once clamped in the hold n fold the bend is executed then the covers attached with some medium CA glue I noted the on the end face there is no material behind the cover so I will cut some styrene to make some infills as the plating unsupported with rivet detail that doesn't attach to anything doesn't look right.
Next were some side braces that fit in between the sole bar and the wagon side

Haven't been doing a lot of small scale modelling since the Exhibition, havnt even set the layout back up as I have another exhibition coming up in a few weeks.

but the bench has been full since the exhibition.

On the work bench has been my Live Steam Pacific NSWGR 38class now the idea was it was meant to be ready to go Add water, give it a oil, fill the gas tank and light the fire.
Didn't quite go to plan when I tried to fill the boiler for the first time a fitting leaked however it had to be a fitting that was near impossible to get to with any spanner I had located between the frames under the boiler with no direct access.
I ended up having to buy a special set of spanners and make a custom spanner to access this fitting. This done and able to add water, it was time to test steam, as steam built I had leaks from fittings all over the loco so a few hours were spent reseating all the fittings. Eventually I was able to test steam the loco and run on a set of rollers.
Next came a track test it was initially a failure as the brake rigging on the tender came away and caused some issues once sorted the loco ran for over an hour revealing a few issues that needed attention mostly stemming from quality control issues with the original build.
One major thing was the locos springing(axle loading) and the locos reverser wasn't able to be move through full travel limiting the forward cut off position (Forward Gear position)
So I spent several hours reworking the locos springing plus making the rear Delta truck work as it should and support the rear of the loco with a set of rubbing plates installed and different rate springs now actually has 2 springs on each axle box one load one helper.
The reverser adjustment required the cabs removal to rework the reverser stand and adjust the RC server's actuator arm. Position.
One item that was found on the track test was the front Bogie didn't track well was trying to ride up the rail on one side all the time and caused issues on points. Once removed for inspection it was found the Bogie wasn't built straight another quality control issue. got straight on to the manufacturer and they are sending a replacement express post.
Sunday morning is going to be the locos second track test we will see how all the mods will work hopefully all will be good.

Whilst I was doing the mods I fitted the brightly coloured servo wires with a heat shrink cover for 2 reasons one they looked bad the second to tidy them up and protect them from getting damaged by touching something hot on the back of the boiler.
I also painted a few of the parts that stood out like the silver axles centres, pipe work under the cab and the brass unions from the tender water pipes.

I like your stock boxes Chris. I could do with similar for holding pre-formed wagon rakes.

If only they did the boxes suitable for O scale Toto.

The HO ones are great and as you say can have a full Train rake in a box ready to go great for going to the train club or friends layouts. Quick and easy to unpack and repack.

Currently there are 3 types available see the link below, they are made for HO scale although I have been using for OO one box for example holds a GWR 28xx 2-8-0 with 32 16t minerals and a Guards van.
In HO I have a loco and up to 18 Bogie wheat wagons for freight or passenger loco and 9 full size passenger cars
They are made by Auscision Models.

I purchased several bulk packs when Auscision had a big sale and saved big $$ at the time

Due to Extream Heat/wind conditions with a total fire ban the planed Live Steam Train running day that my 38 was to have its second track test has been canceled.
So home again now and there won't be any photos or video of it running today.
A Plus is now have some more time to do a few bits and it will have a new front Bogie hopefully by the time it gets to the track.

Its a pity Chris but probably for the safest. Chances are everything would have been ok but you can never be 100% certain.

    Pete.
