This is the new home of the Rosebuddy & Gypsy Lane Railway. ( R & GLR ). It started its life on another well known and respected Forum where I pestered the life out out everyone to get it to where it is today. Some might argue ...... Not very far. I will get some progress photos of the layout and a couple of track plans up ASAP. It might be a day or so as my priority lies with just getting this place up and running...... So please bare with me. If it attracts half as much attention and support as it had done to date in the land of its birth, I'll be delighted. Look forward to seeing and meeting loads of new ( and old ) faces. Cheers Toto
Matt! You slavedriver, poor old Tom working night and day slaving away at this forum (apart from a jolly in Poland!)give him a break, I'm sure he'll post something before Christmas if he can!
I'll finger out you. What a day..... And it just gets worse all the time. Roll on Poland ....... And vodka .......I don't even drink the stuff. I'll be back on Tuesday and we can decide what we do with this .......
Look, even the forum name was inspired by this layout, and my eternal waiting on Platform 1 for that elusive Deltic to appear - see I self moderated myself again there, jeez the pressure. I'm with Matt, get yer finger ooot, you play with PC's any time you want, its time to get some modelling done. Youre mighty lucky the link to the north has been cut, otherwise us highlanders would been down re-aligning you. See Matt, that's him telt, and I've just got long enough to hide before the bridge re-opens. Now Toto, relax and get ready for the long haul Paul . Attached files
Ok, Looks like most of the big hitters have been dealt with in getting this place up to scratch. I'll try and upload a couple of photo's of where I am with the R & GLR over the weekend. The same goes for Highbridge. These layouts have been well enough documented on other forums but need to be " brought home " now. I appreciate this will be repetition for some but I'll keep it brief and add a summary for anyone new to them. The photos will follow. Cheers Toto
Tom watch out for someone calling the SSPCA No not for Paul and the dog. . . for you disturbing all them spiders that will have built homes in your shed !! at least the ones in my workshop know I OCCASIONALLY open the door and keep out of my reach Cmon now get with the program Cheers Matt
Ok, time to make a start. The history of the R & GLR is a bit of a roller coaster ride. We started of with a new custom built shed, and a mighty fine shed it looked as well, but due to the fact that it was built straight onto the paving slabs and after me doing this, putting it up on slabs, it began to take on water. now at this point my first attempt at a layout was well and truly underway with a baseboard system in and track laid. I have not bothered with the pictures of that as it would take to long. this is the whistle stop tour. anyway, this was the result. i tried doing this, and this at various intervals around the walls but in the end, after investigating further and to find out that the builder had made a complete hash of the floor, I had to strip all the track, baseboards, wiring etc out and do this, Matt and myself completely stripped out the floor ( chipboard had been used ) and started to refit a floating floor. and another, and one more, job done. There has not been a bit of damp or condensation since ....... bone dry and that was started nearly a year ago. We started , from memory on boxing day. The framework was next to go back in which I shall cover next with a couple of photos. I'll be back with that later. cheers toto
That was a Marathon two days .I think I broke him Ron ! he's never been the same since !! Although I must admit It started with an offer of help to a fellow modeller and has since turned into a great friendship . . Yep the Dog loves my visits and Tom just has to put up with me Cheers Matt
Looks like my next shed issue has come to the fore. The door, which I knew was a problem has swollen up with the damp weather getting into it. To the extent that it is a major security issue now. It will need to be tackled sooner rather than later. That could be this years Boxing Day task. a trip to B and Q to see what I can get to sort it out. I think I'll need to take it off its hinges and try to make am complete replacement. So be it, I knew it was coming. Bah humbug. Toto
Just as well you bought your table saw then. This sounds like another excuse to avoid finishing them walls on highbridge. Merry Christmas :xmas-wave: Paul
Hi Paul, You could be right. won't do any harm to get back into it. Let's see what B and Q offers up tomorrow.. Cheers Toto.
Ahhh, memories..., That shed has caused some grief over the last 18 months and now the door is being the pest. Make sure the new door has been properly waterproofed and sealed before hanging. Another option is to clad the door in a skin of 0.8mm steel sheet... Cheers, Gary.
Hi Gary, for the amount of rain we get, probably best with 8mm rather 0.8mm, might last the year . Toto May be worthwile, putting a rain strip (not sure of the correct name) above the door and on the bottom of the door, so that the rain drips clear of the top and bottom edges. Horizontal rain you'll have to come up with an alternative strategy. Happy shopping at B&Q Paul
