Nice Gary that 49 is a nice smooth runner too.
I guess the next thing is to work out the best places for the uncouplers to go.

Are you planning on using the neo magnets again ??

Thinking about ordering some neo magnets for my plank.
I did have lots of genuine Kadee magnets but gave them all away a year or so ago.

Yes Chris. I'll be ordering a stack of the 3mm x 10mm neodymium magnets from China, if I can't find my spares.

    Cheers, Gary.

The scenic break bridge is just about complete...

Still have to add wire to the fence and the nuts and bolts to the timbers. Two either concrete or brick pillars need to be knocked up. After that the painting begins...

    Cheers, Gary.

    Thank you Toto and Richard.

The deck is scribed balsa wood, with approximately 2mm spacings.

I can't believe that it has almost been 5 weeks since my last post on here...!! How time flies by... :whatever:

Anyway, some progress has been made. Today was spent building the loading ramp, which can be found here : http://p1mrc.com/p1mrc/view_topic.php?id=2688&forum_id=57

Also today some land forms were carved up from styrofoam, as I had an abundance in the garage. The creek was also carved out and with the use of a wire brush (outside of course), all the land forms were brought together. This also included building the ground up for the loading bank.

A couple of pics of the progress....

The creek has been carved and sort of filed smooth...

Looking back at the creek edge in the opposite direction.

The cutting and scenic break bridge.

The loading bank in position so I could carve the styrofoam to the right shape.

At the moment, I am painting the rails by hand. The sleepers have already had a few washes of greys and browns to reduce that horrible black plastic Peco uses...

    More soon.

    Cheers, Gary.

I have built a small trestle bridge which will carry the railway across the creek. I just need to add chairs to the sleepers... ;)

Thank you Ian, Pete and Toto.

Well the track was painted and the bridge has had sole plates (chairs) fitted...

I think the fixed track sleepers need a wash of white to lighten them up some. At the moment they look far too dark !

    Cheers, Gary.

This afternoon was spent plastering the layout...

I used some old 3 in 1 Compound Cement for cornice, patching cracks plasterboard, as I could not find my bag of plaster. Hopefully this will set hard as concrete !

I painted on a liberal coat over the cut surface of the foam and the results after 30 minutes were not that good, as it settled into all the small hollows left from cutting and filing the foam sub base.
So.., how to fix this ?? :scratchchin:

Some of you may recall Martin T's post (marklinofsweden) about making waves using toilet paper... which is basically similar to a product called 'Sculptamould'. When I looked into Sculptamold further, I discovered that you can make this at home. This was made by mixing the plaster together to a runny consistency and adding toilet paper ! Hence Mark T's tutorial on making waves...

So, by using both methods, I started again over the top. First up was to give the existing surface another paint with the plaster...

Secondly, I placed squares of toilet paper across the surface. This was stippled into the top coat with a 1" paintbrush, making sure I work in one direct, squeezing out any bubbles.

This was repeated with another three layers and the result is much, much better than what I started with !

Some toilet paper was added to the dregs of plaster left over and was mushed up. This was applied in areas I could not brush plaster in, like under the bridge.

Now I just need to wait a good 24 hours for this to harden before proceeding...

In that case, I better get stuck into either scratch building the fertilizer shed or get on with the 'Bridge Too Far' competition build...

    Cheers, Gary.

That toilet paper work looks fantastic too Gary. I'm been wondering about the possibilities of toilet paper given what it does when in contact with water compared to other paper.
Just got to wait now from the jokes about its use from the "other hemisphere" I'm sure there will be puns aplenty.
    Cheers
    Tony
