So are you going to sit there for 6 hours and watch for any kinks in the filament...?? :scratchchin:

    Nah, didn't think so...

Good luck with the second run. Hopefully it won't be the 'hand of god' moving trains about in Elgin...

    Cheers, Gary.

Well I was going to drink coffee as well, but now you've let that out the bag, I'll have to look at other jobs on the list :avatar:

The only issue of using blue, is it's very close to Rangers blue, and the Green and White very a la Celtic or Hibs, and no neither are my preferred team. And before Toto asks, the only dark claret I have comes in a bottle not on a reel.

48% done and its looking good - so far

Suppose I will need start and work on the drive bracket / linear bearing mount for the traverser table, probably got a day and a half before I can get printed tho (if this one is good then I need 3 more :whatever:). And then a new motor mount with some form of belt tensioning - nae rest for the wicked, I just hadn't realized I was so bad :avatar:

    6 hours 2 mins later .............

Just needs removing from the bed - easier said than done, then clean off the supprots - can be be seen in the middle of each hole, and are used to support overhangs during the printing process.

    1 down 3 to go

2nd one completed - that was an absolute pain to remove of the bed - bit like Toto in the morning - so I'm told

Bearings fitted to both, I may need to get a 12mm reamer for the tube/bar holes.

3rd one started, so hopefully early friday afternoon all the base brackets will be completed.

    It's getting there

    Well maybe no ........

Slept in this morning so the next print wasn't started till 9 am. :whatever:

However the slide design is the most complicated I've tried yet

This will be the other way up when installed

The two clamps need thinning down, but will be held in place with set screws (3 per clamp using a nut in the base to retain them.

Still some refinement but hopefully all will align :whatever:

Five hours to print the two clamps.

Started the baseplate print - this could be a very long print.

Getting my stuff ready for a trip to chez Toto.

And this is what 10 hours produces

The infill is 25%, I've made it higher than usual, and all external faces have 3 layers, both considerably increase the print times, but produce a more rigid print.

The solid portion visible is start of the linear bearing supports. The holes are part of the bearing clamping

    NUTS !!!!!

Came down stairs after enjoying my extra hour lie in, checked the printer Completed Build time 19h41m .

Looked at the print and something has happened during the print and caused a offset.

Which means the lead screw and sliders are out of alignment :hammer:

Looking on the positive side the rest of the print was perfect

The hex holes for the retaining nuts on the underside were spot on

The linear bearings clipped in and can be turned upside down with out dropping out

    And the clamps line up

You can see the miss-alignment in the above picture.

Back to the drawing board - I need to find out if its an error in the slicing software or something happened on the printer itself.

I'll try dropping the infill to 15%, and increase the print speed to 60/90 rather than the 50/60 settings used. This will cause a new slicer file to be created, any print issues caused by the changes I am aware of but it should print quicker so I should see if it was a slicer or printer issue.

Hopefully there is enough blue filament left on the spool :whatever:

That's a shame given the print time Paul. It does look he part though. Amazing what can be done.

That would drive me nuts knowing that after almost 20 odd hours that it has decided to do its own thing... I'd say 'patience of a saint' was thrown out the window today.

I know what I'd be saying, to which I couldn't repeat here but it would go like this...":bleep6:, :bleep6:ing, :bleep6:, :bleep6:, :bleep6:ing:bleep6:ed up !!"

Fingers crossed that the next print will be spot on.

    Cheers, Gary.

Had I left the skype channel open as that was almost word for word, especially when I first looked at it the linear bearing slots were all perfect

Hopefully on the current print settings - providing I don't run out of filament :whatever:, I should know in 12 hours time

Time to chip a loco to take my mind of it

Well a week later and the progress is.......
Tried a second print using slightly lower print setting 15% infill - estimated 12hr build time
10 hrs into the build and the reel of filament is looking might low - but I'm at the ready - next reel in hand, 30 min later and there is still some left, 45 min and there doesn't appear to be much change. I decided to get ready for the reel change and pull the remaining filament off the reel and load up the new reel. When I tried to pull the guide tube off the filament it was very tight - uh oh, a quick check at the printhead and its approx. 4mm clear of the print
Looking at the filament it appears to be oval in shape and had jammed in the guide tube :headbanger:emptying the extruder of filament - another one hits the bin.
And it had formed a plug in the cool part of the hotend - another strip down
Several bed levelling sessions later I had a working 3D printer.
My new reels of Primafilament - Black PLA, the same as used on the mk2 parts, had arrived, so I decided to have a go at printing at the lower Standard print quality, 10% infil, 3 outer layers, temp back to 210C, and print speeds back to 60/90 mm/sec.
5hr31min later were at 93% and seem to beyond the point the first print failed at - pictures to follow once the build is complete.
