Tower Models O Gauge Pannier Tank should be here next week. I'll post up some pictures when it arrives. cheers toto
Smart looking loco there Toto ... er how long before you can find out if it runs ... like on track ... a video maybe ... Ian vt
I'll need to chip it Ian but maybe can test it with my wee DC controller if the motor is to heavy. Cheers Toto
Very nice Toto. The Tower models brass are similar to the Bachmann Brass locos, I think they actually came from the same factory in China so I'm guessing they will also have similar motors and will be very low current draw Looking forward to seeing some nice photos of it on the layout. Layout and dog in the kitchen at the same time lets see who gets the dog house I'm betting it's not Lulu.
Picked up the loco this morning mmmmmmm. Luvly Jubbly. Not disappointed, really good condition. I'll post a picture or three later. Cheers Toto
And as promised, here are the pictures. side on the rear quarters, looking good. and the front, and another. another front shot, Don't forget the crew. All in all, its in great condition. Still to be test run on DC before installing a decoder. I'll post up some more photos of the decoder install. cheers toto
A Southern Terrier and a GWR Pannier on NE rails...?? I guess Rule 1 applies here...! Actually, it has been reported that the Panniers did run in Scotland, up as far as Dornoch... Cheers, Gary.
Hello Toto and others, Your 57xx looks lovely , there may have been hundreds of em, but they have a well balanced look to them, and despite their 19 th century origins they still look remarkably modern, especially with the BR post 1957 totem . Hope it runs as well as it looks, Best wishes and regards, Echidna
Gary wrote: Somewhere, maybe facebook, someone posted a photo of a pannier in LNER ownership either during or just after the WW2 years, due to loco shortages, it was a grainy photo with just N E on the tank sides. Pete.
That's very nice, the Bachmann Brass and Tower were indeed from the same supplier. The now closed San Cheng factory who also made fine scale brass's models.
The only good GWR loco 1649 and a few friends were sent up to the Dornoch line in 1957, with the withdrawel of the HR Passenger tanks - due to an axel failiure. Paul
And the time has come to think about fitting a decoder. It will need to be hard wired as there is no socket fitted. I am looking at using a Zen 8 pin harnessed decoder a little like this one ......... in fact ........ a lot like this one ............ In fact ...... it is this one. Now ..... to find out how to take the loco apart and fit it. I'll be back. cheers toto
here is what I have when I take the loco apart ..... the shell comes off by taking half a dozen of the smallest screws I have ever seen in my puff out. and we have this .......... two red wires coming out of the motor. a closer view ......... and another ...... Now I know I have to cut into these two wires but ...... where do they connect onto on the decoder. ....... exactly answers on a post card please ......... cheers toto
That's an easy one First check that it goes in the correct direction on DC as most Of the locos from the San Cheng factory went in reverse to standard practice If it is running in the correct direction proceed as below. Remove Red wires from motor connect to red wire to decoder. Connect Orange wire from decoder to the motor where the red wire was removed Remove Black wires from motor connect to black wire to decoder Connect Gray wire from decoder to the motor where the Black wire was removed Remember to place heat shrink on all connections to insulate. Slide a sleeve of heat shrink over decoder to prevent any shorting on the brass loco body. Test Securely mount decoder (3M Double sided tape) to inside of loco body. Now if it did go the wrong way on DC you may want to transpose the Orange and Gray wires when you do the install or just change CV 29 to reflect reverse opperation.
Toto wrote: The Black wires to the lower motor conection may be a little tight to get at but other than that is about the most basic hard wire keep the other function wires on the decoder you may want to add lights or a fire box Flickr at a later date just nip off the last bit of un insulated wire and slip them into a bit of heat shrink so they won't contact the brass accidentally and keep of another day when your feeling adventurous
