Makita, still one of the best brands out there. I take it you'll be using the Makita kit for building the shed first..?? Cheers, Gary.
You can build the plank whilst building the shed. Build shed during the day. build plank at night, with the left overs from the shed Anyway as you said Veers, it's taken 20 years to get to the shed extention you may have the plank finished and ready to go N the shed when it's finaly ready
Little bits here and there, I've ordered 2 of the Austrains C30 tank engines, in original. Working on Luke Towan's Static Grass Applicator and am starting to make my first mould from a rock. Should be interesting to see how it goes. Unfortunately, very little room or money to start working on the plank just yet, but I'll get there in my own time. Quite a bit happening and I'm still happy with the progress and research I'm doing. First Mould Attempt by Aaron Smith, on Flickr
Great to see your having a crack at doing some of your own moulds for rocks One of the best things with the hobby if you are a bit short on time and space nothing really changes when things settle down and space become available you can just start where you left off. http://www.click
Great to hear from you Veers and as Chris stated, good to see you having a go. I remember reading in AMRM a technique of making rocks be carving up some polystyrene foam in all different shapes, then covering with plaster of paris that had been mixed with fine sand. As for the static grass applicator, here is my diagram I had drawn up back in 2014 for YMRC. Cheers, Gary.
Basically doing the same thing Gary, except following Luke Towan's version/instructions on his youtube channel. He runs Boulder Creek Railroad. I'm generally always around, mostly at work or out where I can't remember my password, so I lurk
Not much happening at all, mostly studying and a little work to try and keep the bills in check. But I have managed to pick up some books, magazines and rolling stock as they've popped up online. Just bits here and there. Pride of my collection, LIMA 3801 and 3802. Both bought new with limited running time since then. 38013802 by Aaron Smith, on Flickr A Rock I moulded in Hydrocal 105, very impressed with the level of detail that it pulled out. rock by Aaron Smith, on Flickr centuryofLoco, Railways NSW by Aaron Smith, on Flickr M&MR by Aaron Smith, on Flickr Just added them up, I've got something over 20 carriages alone. Which is.. more than I thought. Now if anybody asks "Do they fit the time period?", The colour does. I think....
Got to love a pair of C38's Veers You may have guessed by some of my posts I like the 38 Class as well. A nice set of books there as well
Never liked too much plastic though, feels wrong... However brass is quite expensive, especially for the 38s.
It's been a long time since I mentioned anything.., the quickest way to say anything is with a list! - I haven't started building the layout. With a move planned to Melbourne and a lack of funds, I've instead focused on acquiring odds and ends instead. - There are now 4 38 class locomotives here, Lima 3801 and 3802 (DC), Eureka 3803 (DCC - damaged mechanism) and Lima 3830 (DCC). I have some other diesels as well. And two of the 30class tank engines on order from Austrains. - LOTS of new rolling stock in the tuscan & russet scheme. Not sure what to do with them now, so many. And I should have some LCH coal wagons arriving soon, for something a little different. - Serveral book purchases have been fantastic reads - Drove up north to visit a gentleman named Terry, to purchase a powercab pro power system from him. Two controllers, the 5amp addon and $600 later. I couldn't fit anything else into my hilux. I bought the powersystem ($400), some water tanks, storage/carry boxes and some more rollingstock. Terry kindly gave me just about everything else he owned. I've now got boxes of paints, a huge container worth of scenery materials. I've sorted though it and I still have no idea what to do with it all. - I did attempt to buy some 30mm foam for the baseboard, but every bunnings store within 100km of me was sold out. (thats 4 stores, boo). You may remember I mentioned making up a mould and trying to cast a rock from that, well it succeeded. And it occured to me last night, that I have paints. So I painted it today, I'm very happy with it. The mould Mold Attempt 1 by Aaron Smith, on Flickr The rock Completed Mould by Aaron Smith, on Flickr And today's finished product! Awesome rock painting, very inspirational. On the foam front, I was buying some for work a while ago, to make liners for the boxes to carry our laser scanners up the harbour bridge, long story... Artarmon Bunnings nothing, Chatswood Bunnings it said they had 23, could not find them, even with the help of several staff members. Got them to check other stores, nobody had any in stock according to their system. Went up to West Gosford, even though they were showing none in stock on computer, they had a pallet of the 50mm and a pallet of the 30mm, but not stacked where it would make sense. They may still have some there. Maybe not the sort of thing to stock up on before you move though. Cheers Tony
