Ian and a warm from sunny Dundee Glad you decided to join us here at platform1mrc and look forward to hearing about yourself and your modelling adventures. Once again welcome to the forum Paul
and thank you to every one for welcoming me into this site, which I must say I stumbled upon by accident, but very glad that I did. I would put myself as a beginner, in that I am just starting to build/rebuild my interest in this great hobby, which I had started in over 30 years ago, but since then I have spent a decade up at Ayres Rock, (no where for hobbies such as this up there) then upon moving back to Vic to be closer to family, I started to acquaint myself with this hobby again, and had a layout of approx. 3m x 6m, and up to the running stage, but that had to be dismantled and stored away, I started a couple more times but had to store it all away again, I am now in a position to start up again, and have almost finished setting up a room 7m x 3.5m in the new garage, and look forward to setting up the parts of the layout which have survived storage, and expanding upon that. I don't have a set plan of what layout theme I will be doing, it is not based on any one specific type or area, but will be mainly Victorian based up to mid 70's, and I want to include areas that interest me, such as a few old country stations and yards, which I have photos of, and look forward to scratch building these, and many more. but all in all, I class myself as a beginner, after seeing what you guys have done, and doing with all your layouts, and if I'm able to create a layout 10% as good as some of yours, I will be happy. I hope to post up a few photos of what I'm up to, train room wise, etc, and look forward to hearing any comments concerning what I'm doing and hoping to do in the future, and I'm looking forward learning and evolving with this great hobby. thanks to everyone, once again. Ian Mac
Hi Ian, Thanks for the likes. feel free to jump in on the post with an Introduction. Doesn't need to be war and peace just a few lines to break the ice and let us know what floats your boat. I hope you are enjoying what we have to offer. Cheers Toto
Terrific start with the introduction thread. You have a very enviable space at your disposal and I' sure we will all be keen to see how you best utilise it. It' handy that you have already got a head start with useable areas from your previous layout. . We'll look forward to following your progress and I'm sure folks will have plenty to chip in with. Likewise, if you have any questions or are banging your head of a brick wall trying to overcome a particular problem ........ scream out. Cheers for now and once again, a big platform1 Cheers Toto
Hi Ian, great intro mate . As Toto says, you seem to have the basics covered and have the space to work with. The only thing I would suggest is, don't overstretch your self. The only one you have to satisfy is you! There are no judgemental members on here, any that do raise their heads are swiftly dealt with. First thing I would suggest is posting up a plan of your proposed layout, if there are any parts that may cause you problems you can be sure we've come across them before and can offer constructive suggestions. Have you heard of Anyrail? a free to down load layout planning tool. Very useful for working out what will fit where as it uses manufacturers own track and point geometry so if it fits on the screen, you can be sure it will work in the real world, plus you can print off the plans to scale. Lots of luck mate and keep posting! Cheer's, Pete.
G'day Ian, A belated welcome from Sydney. Great to have you on board. Victorian layout, 1970s ! Sounds good to me... Plenty of S, B, X & T classes to name a few. Will be watching with interest as you get going again. Don't be shy.., if you have anything to ask, this is the place to be. Enjoy the camaraderie and banter that is P1MRC. Cheers, Gary.
