Hello first time poster here. I've returned to model railways after a 30 year break. Here is a small layout I've constructed on an IKEA Lack shelf unit 43" x 10.5".

Thanks for the welcome and the complements Toto. The Class 33 is a Heljan Sultan, I also have layout4.jpg an ex-Lima Hornby Railroad body on a Heljan chassis. It has been detailed with flush glazing and also AI models roof fan & grill and windscreen wipers since the photos were taken. Still lots more work to do on the layout.

    Hi Chris

Nice compact layout, I wonder, on returning to the hobby after a 30 year break, did you like me notice so much has changed, RTR are hardly recognizable from before.

Hi Paul, Yes the whole RTR thing has been a complete shock to me. in the 1980's I was a Beaties customer, buying Airfix, Lima and Mainline locos and rolling stock at very cheap prices. The prices have gone up but detailing on the modern RTR models like Bachmann and Heljan is absolutely astounding.
All the model shops in my local area that I frequented back then have all closed, I have been using the internet traders to buy stock.
I've still to get my head round DCC and sound units
