Hi chaps,

The above is one of many ideas that we are toying with at the moment. It is yet to be confirmed if it's possible but we are so excited by the idea that I thought I'd test the water as to the possible uptake by members.

The idea would be that if any of our members had U Tube channels ( specifically hobby related ) we would like to add a dash board of sorts where such a member would have his username next to a button that would take others directly to their channel.

As I said, we will have other ideas coming through the pipeline with the sum total hopefully adding to the provision as a forward thinking one stop shop for our members. A first point of reference.

Other link categories are currently under consideration but we think that the above would be a hot favourite to kick off with. Others may include modelling clubs and links to preservation railway sites if possible. There is still a lot of communications and contacts to be identified prior to realising the reality of the above but your initial comments would be gratefully appreciated.

Please feel free to post your comments here.

Toto

Sounds alright to me Toto, however we don`t want the interface for the forum getting too busy I would think.

Hi Gormo,

I have been talking to Matt and paul ( so far ) with regards to this just to get some initial feedback on the idea. I'd like to open the discussion up further with everyone ( the purpose of the post I suppose ) I'll take on board all comments and suggestions however, initially, just to get some meat hung on the bones it would be great to facilitate that Skype call just so we can get the mods to fast track an initial solution and present it to the rest of the members for further comments / suggestions.

A group Skype of 30 may be asking a bit much. :avatar: however, as we have stated from the start, we do want to be very much the " listening forum " and involve our members as much as we realistically can do.

We have successfully purchased another domain .......... http://platform1mrc.co.uk ............

The reason for this as well as generally to prevent anyone else doing so is to provide a website where other related ventures can grow. We are thinking about offering linked pages to members from which to have their own layout site. There would be links back and forth between their various threads etc on Platform 1 Community Forum.

It may be that we can design the U Tube links through that as well. Ideally though I'd like readers to come through the forum itself in order to link to the U Tube videos as the idea is .......... You come in to see the threads and they lead to various types of videos whether it be running sessions, how to videos, depending on what is going on in anyone's threads at that time.

The idea is still very much in its infancy but you get the basic feel of it. Someone may have a better way and if they do ....... I'm all ears.

If members are also members of local clubs etc and they would like links through the forum....... Give us the contact details and we can talk the talk.

Again, we will hang fire until we have decided how it would work and what can be done. I'll be discussing this with Martin Wynnes to see if it is something he would be interested in helping to develop or if I need to look elsewhere.

Martin , feel free to chip in.

Again, if there are any other suggestions from anyone on this topic or any other new ideas to set us apart from the rest...... Let's have them.

Cheers

Toto

I'm happy to help with the techy stuff, but I don't want to get involved in the everyday running of Platform 1. I have my own software development project and support forum, which takes up as much time as I want to spend in front of my computer:

What I have done so far was to help you get started as a fellow user of UltraBB. I'm fully expecting you to change it all to meet your developing needs.

Also I'm not entirely happy about the rift with YMRC. I don't want to be associated with that, it is nothing of my concern.

regards,

Martin.

G`day Toto,
All that sounds fine to me as long as you`re not creating a rod for your back. The larger and more complex the forum, the more there is to maintain.......a bit like a model railway.

Martin, a lot of us are still members of YMRC, I haven't seen any reaction to this forum being set up and if I did i would say that they're are lots of forums that are free to join and the more the merrier!
Have a good Christmas

Cheers
Ron

Hi Martin,

No problem. I appreciate all the support you have given. Much appreciated. I appreciate you have your own ventures as well so the best of luck with that. You have given me a fantastic start with the forum.

As far as any Rift with YMRC goes, there truly is no bad blood between myself and YMRC, at least not on my behalf. We have quite simply parted company. I still thank them for my time there and wish them all the best.

As far as the introduction of Platform one goes, I was always interested in starting a website. Maybe not a forum to begin with. However as it became more apparent that my returning to YMRC was less and less likely, this was the result.

There may be an issue for them as members choose to migrate over, but I make no apology for that. I hope I can keep them here ........ Of their own free will. I have no objection to them being on as many forums as they choose. I will openly encourage it. If I want to enhance my chances of keeping them here ......... It's down to me to provide the environment that stimulates that.

Hopefully I can drag you kicking and screaming into continuing to help out, as you say, to a level that you are happy with. I'd love to get the basics of my new front page on the go to provide the gateway to other facets of this fantastic forum and hobby in general. We have some ideas and there could be something for everyone. It's only ever going to get bigger and better.

Thanks for now

Toto
