OK....I`m in with the fun Christmas diorama category.

I am entering a Christmas village I made some years ago...( if it`s legal ? ). Even though it was made some time ago, it was made by me and I think it meets the criteria for the competition.

The village now is going through some restoration to bring it back up to speed for use under the tree this year. Richard, of this church, was fundamental in aiding with the village return by donating some Super 4 Triang track to the cause. Richard, if you are reading this, the two straights length are a perfect fit for the length of the village....lucky...but true....

So I think Toto was interested in contestants updating posts from time to time to show the ongoing development of entries, so I will do that and kick off with the following.

Here is the village minus most of it`s trees. The elevated section sits on a block of polystyrene which is wrapped in corrugated card and decorated with various stone papers.

Here are the trees. The green colouring had faded significantly. Don`t know how or why because it is stored in a cupboard when not in use. I mixed some Brunswick green and Black acrylic and re-painted them and when dry, I added white acrylic to the tips to create snow.

All the buildings were downloaded from the Wordsworth Model Railway site and are very basic but very easy to complete.

http://www.wordsworthmodelrailway.co.uk/

The model people are HO scale and were recovered from my son`s redundant model railway.

I have created and added detail like the sign for the church.

Santa and his sleigh were acquired today at a local village fete so I thought I`d plonk him onto the roof.

They are a hardy lot who live in this village. There are coloured LED`s buried under the snow. You can see one just to the right of the right hand man.

Here it is

The lower level accommodates the track for the Christmas train. This may be improved and worked over a bit yet...:scratchchin:

I should mention that the snow is made from baking soda and has survived quite a few Christmas adventures with youngsters at the controls.

Now fundamental to the whole presentation is the Christmas train. The train is all old Tyco and was donated to the cause by a family friend some years ago. The Polar Express sign was created in my drawing program and is stuck on with BluTac.

The Christmas tree on the wagon is a HO scale tree to which colured decorations were added. The gift boxes were all downloaded from the net.....can`t remember where from now.????

All the other little embellishments were bought from a $ 2 shop or pound shop, if you like.

So there we are folks. I will update with any further improvements and embellishments that come along and I will eventually pose the village and train, when complete, for official entry photos.

At this stage I`m throwing down the gauntlet......so come on lads...put your creative caps on and let your imagination go for it.

I`ll be back
