There is also an upper file size limit (that I just can't remember), that the software can cope with.

Myself I use a batch file within Paintshop Pro (I'm using version 5, I do have version 9, but as I only ever resize photo's I've not bothered to put in the effort to check it out - maybe one day) which resizes the picture to 800 x 600 and adds a white border.

I point it at the sdcard select the latest pictures, then fire it off, it resizes the pictures and saves them to another folder with the same but now is resized, makes it easy to find the original if I need a larger image.

They also load up a lot quicker.

Thanks Gormo and hi Toto

I have resized my photos as per your suggested software. Easy to use. My new resized Avatar has been loaded and it shows on my member's page as being the active Avatar. However the actual Avatar showing on my posts has reverted to the original one that I have deleted so I guess this is one for Toto to look at as part of transition bugs.

Cheers

Richard

Hi Toto,

On a VPS you should be able to use as much memory as you need. But you may need to ask your hosting provider to increase the allowance.

Somewhere in one of your PHP files you probably have a line something like this:

     ini_set("memory_limit","64M");

That needs to be changed to at least 256M or more to allow resizing of large images. But the change won't have any effect until your host has changed the limit.

Ken.

Hi Richard,

press Ctrl+F5 keys in your browser to update the browser's image cache.

Thanks Ken

New Avatar now in place. Is it necessary to update the image cache each time you change Avatar?

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard,

Not necessarily, it would probably change by itself after a few days. Google Chrome is the worst for hanging on to cached content for a long time.

these are the settings you need to change in the php.ini, set the numbers to whatever you want as long as divisible by 8
memory_limit = 32M upload_max_filesize = 24M post_max_size = 32M[code]
