Getting back on track, here is what is happening this weekend. Baseboard two.

The track will be squared up a bit when actually laid to give the best geometry but the above is a taster of whats planned.
cheers

Well,
first phase undertaken and its time for a coffee.
we started with this ....... a sheet of 9mm ply,

Done a bit of marking up and ducking and diving.

Marked up the various centre lines and tried a length of track to get a feel for where the trackbed would be on the swively thing.

made a doofer and worked out the centres to suit the track plan.

Oh boy ....... in for a penny now.......

and who is that handsome chap there. a bit blind by the look of him. the jigsaw was set to its lowest speed setting and ......... away we go.

There we have it, the roundy bits are cut.

The bridging piece still has to be cut out yet.

but the boy has it all in hand ....... what a belter.

roughly lined up to give an idea of whats going on.
Now, I have the sub base to cut out of sheet number two. The parts above will be fixed to the sub base. The roundy bit on the sub base will stick out by about 20mm or so to give the turny bit a bearing to sit on.
More progress piccies as it happens.
Have a nice day.
Toto.
and comments, advice ....... grief, abuse, slagging ...... anything really ...... is more than welcome as usual.

Phase two ...... the sub base.
started with this,

The top baseboard offered up in order to decide the overhang required for the outside perimeter bearing.

sorted using the same centre measurement as the previous baseboard to keep things aligned.

radius has been cut.

here is what we have,

and tother end.

The complete item.
but ...... crap ply I'm afraid. Ain't been glued well during manufacture.

I'll slap in some PVA ....... lots in fact. and it will be getting screwed down and have the weight of the upper board on it as well. I'm sure it will be ok.
comments as usual.
cheers

Can I suggest before you get too far dwn the track with the turntable, that you fix it to something solid with the end pieces in place and rotate the turntable deck. I'd hate to see that it is all fixed down and the turntable jams on one of the outer curves.

All in all, you have taken the bull (goat) by the horns and moved along with this. Excellent.

One problem, if you get the job at Sellafield, how you going to pack this into your carry case, so that you have something to work on whilst away ?? :mutley2::mutley2:

Cheers, Gary.

Next is the ply vertical side boards. ....... just thinking of what a fine guitar it would make.

All cut and at a bit of a loss now as I wait and give my glued ply time to dry a bit before fitting it all together.

all ready to rock and roll. its been a good day so far. ........ then SWMBO started practicing making Kamakasi's ......... a cocktail that we had discovered in Cyprus a few years ago. Vodka, Triple Sec and Lime.
Thought it may be wise to put the table saw away for now.

All the constituent parts that I need to frame out baseboard two are now cut and good to go. I just need to cut the white wood support battens but I'll do that when I am ready to assemble it all. I'm going out with my old dad tonight for a beer so it may be tomorrow now.
still,  not a bad start to the weekend.
cheers

Hi Gary,
missed your post there. It will all be getting fixed down in the next installment. :avatar: All will be fine. The main carcass that brings it all together will be top of the list tomorrow. I will have a second pair of hands to hold things whilst I drill and screw things together.
cheers

You're doing that danger thing again Toto ... they (the swmbo's) ... have witchcraft on their side and that sort of talk can bring down wrath ... I've seen it honest. So ... before I go and hide and on a less serious note ... loving the build it's going to be a cracking plank good on yer!
