I'm planning (during an extended lockdown) to build 2 or 3 layouts using the same plywood carcass.I will need 3,6 and 9mm thickness boards.

My question is: Are Wickes/B&Q etc sufficient or should I pay (much more) for Baltic ply from a specialised supplier?

The layouts will be small ones - perhaps a max of 2.4m in length.

Thanks,

Hello chaps,

I have been asked by a client who has an adult son with learning disabilities to construct a bedroom layout in OO Gauge for him as part of his relax therapy, this is additional to our current house renovation on the property which is currently empty. Now the client has asked for a single continuous loop to run all round the room... ok so far but the client has asked for the layout to be positioned on the wall at head height to avoid obstructions such as door and window opening,...

The rebuild of Setforth Junction is allowing me to increase the number of fiddle yard tracks. Previously I used 50mm centres (00) which seemed to work well. Has anyone gone any lower than that, and any snags other than lifting anything off of course?
And a new board will be required for it. I used 2mm cork before over 9mm pky, but I've got dozens of square metres of laminate flooring foam underlay left over from DIY projects. Thought of using that for the fiddle yard as it may transmit less...

Hi all, I was able to spend an enjoyable few hours at the South Hants MRC show in Portsmouth yesterday. One of the exhibitors was a guy by the name of Tim Horn, who had various designs of baseboard on display, made from laser cut ply and MDF. They looked very well made and were really lightweight.

Might be of interest to someone?

www.timhorn.co.uk for the details of costs etc.
Apparently he can't export to Australia due to restrictions on importing...

We all need a baseboard of some sort to commence the build of our model railway layouts. from the back of an old door, a shelf or the more traditional timber build from scratch with plywood and softwood timber framing. it could be solid core, hollow core, foam, timber, sundeala or what ever.

folks are coming up with weird and wonderful ways of including various materials etc so ...... feel free to start your own post in here with a few photo's to illustrate how you do it.
