The C30T started out life as the 30 Class 4-6-4 tank locomotive and used extensively in the Sydney Suburban network. Following electrification of the suburban system in the late 1920's, 77 of these locos were converted from tank to tender stock and redeployed throughout the light branch lines in NSW.
