Most of us have a particular modelling 'Forte', but I'm the first to admit that the 'Artistic' side is not mine! As a result, as I've begun the assembly of the L-cut SR signal box, I'm in need of advice on how to go about it with regard to painting, specifically the brickwork. Obviously I don't want to flood the 'mortar courses' with brick coloured paint and I will be using a grey primer on the whole of the walls which would represent said mortar and form a base coat for it, but how do I go...

I've recently come across this seller on their Ebay shop (apparently on Facebook too) who have a range of quite inexpensive 0 and 00 gauge laser cut kits such as low relief warehouse, terraced house fronts/backs, a barn, window kits etc. Googling for their website comes up as "Error 404" so not sure if they've decided to just stick to an Ebay shop for now. The low relief warehouse is priced at under £15 for 0 gauge so very reasonable, though it doesn't appear to have brickwork cut in but if...

Having had one of this makers 4mm laser cut 'builder boxes' for several years now, I've found it a very useful aid to chassis building, so (if I can get my backside in gear and make a start!) as I'm moving into 0 gauge and have a couple of 7mm loco kits to build, I bought one of the above, which is large enough to accommodate the "Merchant Navy" kit I have, and also the Connoisseur 02 kit. I only ordered this kit on Saturday last, by cheque as the proprietor only accepts cheques or bank...

I started using LibreOffice Draw to create vector graphic files for laser-cutting. Some of my first projects are for a KA Tramcar carriage, an 1884 Glasson's Contract High-sided D wagon and for track panels.

The track panels are to be cut in 2.5mm plywood. Pilot holes for Micro-Engineering rail spikes are included in the drawing. In the 1890s, the NSWGR used 21ft and 24ft rails. These track panels are for 24ft panels, simply because the measurements are a little more convenient for drawing....

A few years ago I scratch-built this Brake Van. It is principally made from Kappler Scale Lumber, which as far as I can tell is Sugar-Pine. I modelled it slightly different on each of the two sides. My cunning plan was to put different numbers/letters on each side and pretend it was two brake vans. Body and chassis come apart - held together with two brass 8BA screws.

It is about 3-4 years old and it hasn't warped or fallen apart. I glued it all together using Zap-a-Gap Medium CA. No...
