and a warm welcome from a Baltic Dundee Great to have you onboard and look forward to hearing about yourself and your modelling adventures so far Once again welcome to the forum Paul
G`day Stan and welcome aboard Platform 1 MRC. I hope you have a pleasant journey with us Gormo...Sydney...Australia
about me? Aussie born and bred. Railways have been part of my life for its entirety, starting as a small boy accompanying my parents chasing the last steam engines around NSW. Despite my father making a few coarse scale O gauge models (an M40, a c36, a MHO and end platform) My Introduction to model railways started with a triang Polly sometime in the late 60s, There was also a Triang bo-bo VR B class and carriages as well. The collection of 4mm gradually grew during my teens, but by my early adulthood, apart from some dabbling with P4, model railways had taken a back seat. My father, however, during the 80's discovered the Gauge 0 Guild, and started... collecting, is the polite way to put it. Following his passing a year ago, I inherited a reasonable selection of this collection, mostly UK origin, with some coarse scale NSWGR O scale, and some 1:48 US outline as well. Many of the "completed" models have suffered the ravages of time, with damage ranging from a few missing parts, to a near rebuild required, and over the last few months I have been gearing up to at least restore as much as I can, building up myskills before attacking the collection of kits that has been left behind. I may also try to build a small layout, although with a spare room measuring only 15'x12' Im not sure if I can make much use of all the pacifics he acquired ( a MPD might work )
Ive been watching the KWVR Gala on cam tonite, yup plenty of the white stuff around your neck of the woods. Good to make models ( if you aren't chasing the real thing)
making the most of my recent redundancy, restoration, detailing and repaint complete on Ex MR Johnson half cab 41713 ( withdrawn in pretty much original condition in 1955) , 2 X ABS 43:1 Ex LNER all steel 13T opens, completed from partially built kits started in the 80's, a couple of New build ex ABS kits ( ex LNER fitted 5 & 6 plank open, and and ex GWR Diag 023 5 pl ) and 2 ex 3 -Aitch 7 plank minerals, repaired and in the case of the empty, stripped back and repainted, followed by one of 2 ex GCR 6 wheel brake vans repainted into perhaps a little too pristine BR bauxite to be prototypically correct
still in progress is a trio of Websters (now Peco) GWR Toads : once I've rebuilt and applied the handrails to the 6 wheeler the 2 vans just need final lettering and weathering to complete.. ( I know I should have plated over the lower planks for BR period but oh well.. they're being paired with ex ROD 3006, which being withdrawn in 1949, almost definitely didnt wear BR black either). I will get back to the pug at some point
Great models Stan, and congrats on Pick of the Week - a how to thread for the builds would be nice Paul
Now you're laying down a challenge... after a 20+ year hiatus from any model making, and 30 years since i did any railway modelling I am learning, and re-learning much myself.....
Hi Stan, we all enjoy learning, we also learn from each other on here, I post on many things I am learning about, my failures as well as successes, it stimulates a healthy exchange of ideas, be seeing you then, Jim (UK)
