I bought a piece of 9mm ply today measuring 6’ X 2’. This will form the centre point of my new exhibition layout the Riviera line.
I haven’t included Mermaid Cove on my Work shop bench thread as from the first day I started it I’ve had interest from some one who wants to purchase it. If the sale falls through it will form part of this layout.
There will be a 4’ board either side of this one and a 6’ board on the ends measuring 26’ scenically. Each will be an individual entity in its self but will flow in to each other. I will do it this way as if in the future I sell one board I can always replace it.
I need to finish Mermaid Cove first then move on to this project.

I think the way the proposed modular segments will work is technically impressive Steve, in effect this layout could become any length you wanted and suit a variety of display spaces.

No it’s card, I will use polystyrene cut and carved as the basis for the sand stone rocks

I’ve commisioned a suitably wind swept tree and another will follow

I’m also going to use this twin aspect GWR colour light signal on the centre board. This was built for Ranelagh Bridge but as you can see it lives right at the front of the layout and is in a pretty precarious position. I have to admit at knocking it over a few times. In reality it controls the next line in the foreground that I did intend on adding in place but I’m at my maximum reach so I’ll make better use of it in the Riviera line!

All credit to Mike Whatton who made the tree, that’s his diorama that he uses to photograph his finished trees on.
I’ve made a list of the timber I need so hopefully construction of the first official section of the Riviera line will begin shortly this section will include both the trees pictured above.
