Friday 27th April 2018, and a birthday outing to my favourite Welsh narrow gauge railway of all time, the Ffestiniog.

Arriving in Blaenau in time to catch the 15:05 service to Porthmadog, I enjoyed a ride along the famous 13 mile route behind 1992-built Double Fairlie locomotive David Lloyd George. The scenery was as spectacular as ever expected, the weather held up quite well, and there was a surprise at the halfway point of Tanybwlch; ex-Penrhyn Hunslet 2-4-0 Blanche (turning 125 years old in 2018 alongside her sister engine Linda) on a driver experience/private charter.

Here are a few views from that day...

    Thanks Guv.

I didn't take part in the 'driver experience' I'm sorry to say (was travelling as a passenger on the down train). Not exactly sure what working it was, but it quite surprised me as my train pulled in. Day was great, thanks; came away with some more 'Dundas' 009 kits to assemble! :D

When a kid many many moons ago we always spent our holidays at Barmouth so a trip on the Ffestiniog line was always on the agenda and your photos David have evoked many memories .. crabbing in the harbour... walking over the rail bridge to Fairbourne ... ah those halcyon days ... thanks David

    Cheers Ed!

Funnily enough Ian, I used to holiday in Barmouth quite a lot in my childhood and teens. Happy days indeed...

    Thanks Ron!
