I'll be in the shed for a quick visit later tonight so will pick up the paint details Pete. I have a CV to alter shortly for getting ut later tonight in an email for viewing tomorrow morning.

Just back from his nib's place where I was trying out some plaster bandage and painting techniques that I will be using on Luib Bridge this weekend. Looks straight forward enough.

I have started cutting some of the supporting foam slabs and sitting them in place unfixed for the moment. There is more needing cut so that will be first before I fix hem all permanently in place. This will allow me to get the rough shape and contours in place prior to the rock mounds, plaster bandage etc being done to give the final detail of the rock faces.

I'm looking forward to this ...... A lot. :tophat:

    Cheers

Thanks for that Toto. I have a craft shop fairly close by that sells Humbrol products. I will have a shufty to see if she sells it, if not I'll ask her if she can get me some. Failing that I'll try WD models in Chesterfield.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Meanwhile ....... back at the ranch ....... dirty great lumps of polystyrene have been glued together and await drying to enable me to press on with the rock face build and associated tunnels. I've tried both " Titebond " strong wood adhesive and " copydex ". I'll give to until the morning to see which has worked best. I hope the Titebond works as I have a few bottles of the stuff. If Copydex wins the day then it will be a trip to B & Q for more as I only have a wee drop left with about 2 tons of foam to glue yet. ...... stay tuned.

    cheers

A few rather dull and boring images of foam ( hopefully ) gluing together.

You will see where these go shortly .....

another two of the same structural hidden supports .....

    The back wall .......

The tunnel roof under which the three supports will go to form the internal tunnel walls etc ..... and off which the above rock face will build out onto and a small single track road will run.

    awaiting drying before continuing.

    cheers for now.

    on we go .....

and the last one for the night .....

That will be where I start of tomorrow from ........

    cheers

A coat of matt black either emulsion or acrylic on the insides of the tunnels will nicely hide the contents.

Runs a pencil line down the edges of the ply to give you a guide for ballasting.

Have you tested a loco through there yet ?

If you need to get more glue consider the Gorilla Glue

    Yep ..... ok.

and here is a bit of a taster as to the Townstreet casts. Not aligned properly ..... just roughly to give the general idea.

once they are straightened up and stuck in with plaster of paris ...... they should be fine.

    cheers

    Well,

Back inside now for the night. Skype over, his nibs has went to his kip. Now ..... tomorrow ..... it's looking like the glue is taking so I will be building both foam Back scene sections out to their required depth. Also ..... it's time to get plastered again...... nothing new there then. :avatar:

I will be building out the front fascia's slightly with plaster of Paris to take the tunnel mouths etc. I may also, if the foam gets built out far enough, get the first layer of plaster bandage in place to start defining the single track road. We'll see how far I get.

The extreme corner where Back scene meets back scene will be a little awkward and will need a bit more thought before diving in but no worries, I have a few ideas. Whilst I am mixing plaster up, I'll also get started making a few moulds / stone casts up in readiness for Sunday. I will require quite a few so I better get started with them. His nibs reckons they take about half an hour to forty minutes before they can be released from the casts ready freeing up the cast for the next mould to be poured.

I have two large casts and two smaller ones with individual rock castings ( about six small casts in the one mould ). I'll follow his nibs's lead and use hot glue to attach the casts to a background of plaster bandage so basically , everything gets hit with that. I love the stuff. :avatar:

I doubt there will be any painting this weekend as getting the rock faces Tec progressed is a fair amount of work in itself but ....... a step at a time. Probably the nearest I've been to getting past the track laying stages so far so I'm not complaining.

Anyway, that's for tomorrow ( or later today ).

    Cheers for now.

    Goooooooood morning Vietnam.

Up early this morning. Truth is, never actually got to bed. Well not to sleep anyway. Seen every minute of the clock so just got back up. I need a trip to ASDA to get some sealable containers to keep my plaster if Paris in once I've opened it. Maybe a few other odds and ends as well.

I'm in limbo as I canny go back into the bedroom to get my jeans to go out yet. If I weaken SWMBO she'll go ape so I need to hang fire. Typical.

Anyway, if should be a prompt start to the day rather than missing half the day as usual so ...... Plenty progress. Just the initial wait. I think some toast and coffee is on the cards.

    Cheers for now.

Sounds like you had a great night then Toto, Plaster of Paris is funny stuff because even if left unopened in the bag after about three months or so it goes off anyway, now don't just leave your sealable containers about the kitchen as the contents might get mistaken for baking powder of even caster sugar for that matter. To avoid an unhealthy culinary experience why not spend the night putting tiny etch bits together instead like I did?

That'll be the next move. However, just a catch up with the plaster work so far. It wont make too much sense at the moment as there are no rock faces in place to provide contours but the plaster bandage has been started in order to provide the support strata.

still plenty to do before it starts to take shape.

    back later with an update

    cheers

    Well,

his nibs popped down today and we tramped on with the rock faces etc.

Done away with the crevices as they did not look right.

and formed the roof over the tunnel for the single track road.

then gave it a base coat of light grey.

started the black wash all over

there we go ...... then started the highlights .....

loverly ...... makes a huge difference and makes the whole thing stand out big time.

His nibs is Dundee bound so I am continuing with the back wall now.

and with an all over coat of plaster bandage as the casts stick to that better than they do the expanded foam.

And thats where I am at the moment. I have more cats to make up in order to continue so I'll get on with that. I will also probably need more plaster of paris but I can pick that up tomorrow.

    cheers for now.

It makes s huge difference and you can begin to see a layout rise up out of it all. I've just finished casting more moulds and I'm waiting northern to cure. Once they do .... I'll pop them and get another set on the go. That will see my plaster of Paris supplies run out.

I may order some online for next day delivery as I havevworkmen comingvyomorrow which will tie me to the house for the best part of the day.

    However, it's getting there.

    Cheers

Now being house sitter isn't such a bad idea when one has a layout with deadlines to meet :avatar: Seriously I see the layout character coming too and I think this will be very popular and have a good following on the circuit once completed.
