Time is running out ....... around 20 minutes to be exact. .... if you are participating ...... get your fingers out. Toto
And the competition is now clllllooooossseeeedddd. The winner is Redpiperbob with " anyone smell smoke " Well done Bob and thanks to everyone who entered. Bob, can you pm me you full name and postal address please including your postcode. I'll get your prize in the post. Please keep your eyes open for more flash competitions as I can assure you that there will be more with various prizes to be won. Many thanks for taking part. Toto
Hi Toto PM sent thank you for the Prize I will take some pics on the layout when it arrives. Be seeing you Bob
Apologies Wolseley. It's over and drawn now. There will be other opportunities though. There are some great prizes to come from both Platform1 and our sponsors. The nature of the quick fire competition did not work well in terms of smoothing any issues with regards to accessibility of the given image. Something that thankfully is not too common on the forum. I shall take further steps to try and ensure that the next flash competition takes care of this. Toto
The whole competition seemed to grow a whole new life of its own once Paul posted that picture, and while I may never find out, the journey may have been funnier than the original. One thing though, us Aussies, and people in different timezones to GMT will have to check in at odd times to make sure we are in I guess Cheers Tony
I realised that, but I was rather commenting on the issues surrounding the appearance (or perhaps non-appearance) of the image.
Hi Tony, I'll look at the turn around times going forward. My idea was that it was over and done with quickly for a quick award. Maybe I could allow a minimum time of say 5 days. The problem with the image was that I did not have direct access to the original file and done a simple direct copy and paste. It obviously did not work on all browsers. I'll make sure that it is provided directly from one of my own photos next time a photo is part if the competition. Again ..... my apologies. Toto
Bob, Your prize went in the post earlier tonight. Special delivery could be there tomorrow. Enjoy Cheers Toto
In regards to time zone, we have quite a few members (in Oz and elsewhere) that are on our facebook page and if you could announce the competition on facebook (without the image) it will keep others informed. I suggest not putting the image up on facebook as we may get a lot of members posting there and not on here. Cheers, Gary.
Any competitions would need to be entered from the forum anyway but announcing on our Facebook page would be a good idea. Again, I'll reiterate that the whole concept of the " flash " competitions is to encourage people to look in from time to time as there may well be a competition on. There is no warning of them, they will just appear. You obviously need to log on to check and it's simply pot luck whether you happen to log on at the right time. There will always still be our longer " normal " competitions as well which will run over a longer period and will be well advertised in advance. Toto
To me, the main problem was that you Toto , did not confirm which photo was to be considered, we all guessed on the photo that Paul posted.
In consideration of the error that I made in the organisation of this competition, I'd like to offer anybody that was disadvantaged by that error the opportunity of receiving a prize. I can see the confusion caused. From the potential entrants that logged on to the thread attempting to participate in the competition, and reading the thread, I can see that immediately, Wolseley and Mr Porter were denied the opportunity to make a proper entry, I'd like to invite them to pm me their full names and postal addresses including post code and I shall be delighted to send them out a prize in order to compensate for my error. If they would like the exact same prize, I shall be happy to oblige based on its immediate availability from Hattons. If they would prefer a surprise offering, please indicate that in your pm. Can you please let me know asap please to let me order up the items and get them in the post. I run competitions ( in fact the whole forum ) in order to provide a facility for modellers. The competitions are in order to add a little fun, enjoyment and are done in good faith. Now and again, I get it wrong, make mistakes. I apologise for any inconvenience. The alternative is that I don't bother but I would rather run the risk of trying ........ and failing as most can see the genuine nature of my offerings. Many thanks for everyone's patience and understanding. Toto
Toto, don't kick yourself. If we didn't make mistakes now and again we wouldn't be human. You spend a goodly amount of time running the forum, and in my view you do a bloody good job. Jim
Strangely enough the picture was on the page when I first opened this thread... I did not have to wait for Paul's intervention. Cheers, Gary.
Gary, your an admin! Toto placed it in a place (probably private) that us mere mortals can't get to (no rights), Paul re-posted it (as he has admin rights like you and could see it) himself with public rights.
Thank you for your pm Mr Porter. I shall order up your prize and inform you of when it's in the post. Toto
