It was the 'Royal Duchy' day today. It was a bit of a dissapointment as 'The Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' was supposed to be supplying the motive power but it turned out to be Black 5 No 44871 and Class 37 No. 37706. Network Rail insisted on 'Diesel Support' due to 'Fire Risk' which normally means the Diesel leading but as it turned out it was marshalled behind the steamer.

The 'Royal Duchy' at Plymouth on 22/07/2018
    Locos No. 44871 & 37706.

Might go down again this evening when it goes back to Bristol.

    More later

    The awaited pics are here.

We start at The Bodmin and Wenford railway on a Mixed Power day. Locos in service were Austerity Tank 75178 & Class 37 No. 37142. Paying a short appearance in the shed was GWR 2-8-0T No. 4247.

We then catch West Country Class 4-6-2 No. 34046 'Braunton' running as No. 34052 'Lord Dowding' passing Totnes with an ill-fated 'Royal Duchy'.(It got to Par ok but someone had forgotten to order the coal for the return journey to Taunton. It managed to limp back to Plymouth where it was taken off and the passengers taken on to Bristol whilst the steamer went to Laira to get some coal there and returned to Taunton later).

After the Royal Duchy had passed Totnes I went off to the South Devon Railway to finish off my day out. Things were not perfect there as instead of 2 steamers in action there was only 1 with a Class 33 covering the second steamer (L92) which had severe mechanical problems. Here we see No. 6412 and D6501 at Buckfastleigh.

    and later at Totnes Riverside.

A few days later I went up to Dawlish Warren for the day and found this at Plymouth North Road Station

Finally I managed to get the last 'Royal Duchy' of the year (a more successful running this time) as it came into Plymouth.

That's it for now. We have the Flying Scotsman into Plymouth on the 4th, 6th and 8th of October so will see what I can manage on this rare occassion.

    Till then 'Bye'

Thanks for the 'Head's Up' in the Footbridge Gary. My wanderings continue this weekend when I shall be at The South Devon Railway on Saturday. It's a Models and Miniatures Weekend so hope to find something useful on the 2nd. hand counters. Last year I managed to get a kit-built LMS Stanier 2-6-4T on a Wrenn Chassis for a £10 note. It is presently, and very slowly at that, going through the works. On the 4th, 6th and 8th October we have the Flying Scotsman doing some trips to and from Plymouth so am looking forward to that. I also will put up a pic of one of those 2+4 HST sets, which I managed to snap this morning.

Latest offerings almost ready but will wait until after the weekend to post them so I can add the Flying Scotsman to the mix. Will also start a new thread on the models (Gauge 1 etc) that I took at the SDR with all the news.

Here we are again. Over the past 4 or 5 days we have been fortunate in having the Flying Scotsman visiting the area. A very rare occasion down here, the last one is in 2009. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of the first day on account of it not getting in until 1920hrs and it was dark and raining. Sorry. On the 6th (Saturday) it made a trip to Penzance and although it was a very wet and overcast day I managed to get some shots as 60103 came into Plymouth with it's support coach. I had to get on my own train then as I was trying to jump it to get to Bodmin and catch it going through there at speed. That was all I got that day as it was cold and very miserable. I totally missed out on the second running of the day from Plymouth to Par. This morning (Monday) I was at my normal spot in Plymouth at 8 o'clock and managed to get the Scotsman and supporting engine coming in with their respective Support Coaches, then 47760 coming in with the passenger stock, some positioning movements and finished off with the whole lot (60103, 44871 & 47760 with 13 coaches leave Plymouth. Should be enough motive power for it to get up Hemerdon. Enjoy the pics, sorry some are a bit dark but the light and overcast skies didn't help.

6th October 2018 at Plymouth North Road.

6th October 2018 at Bodmin Parkway

8th October 2018 at Plymouth North Road.

Some more to follow this weekend when I'm at the SDR again to catch up with the Ivatt tank they have borrowed to cover for their own stock which is out of action awaiting repairs.

Here are acouple of vids my mate took of todays proceedings.

I have forgotten to credit the photograph to a visitor, Mr Barry Gay, who waited around until it was dark enough for us to put the platform lights on, it's NOT my photo! Thanks, Barry.
