Hi everybody, Apologies for the late start, but with holidays and multiple hospital appointments, but I don't know where the time goes.
This will be my first attempt at a diorama and also my first attempt at scenery.
So first of all the basic items.
    The base board plan.
    Base0.JPG

Cork track bed, track, and buffer stop fitted and first coats of paint on.
Farm track made out of Wilko all purpose filler and detailed by running scale vehicle wheels through it whilst still soft. Next job to paint surface.
Bank made of strips of scrap foam, contoured ans PVA'd to base. Filler to be applied.

The plaster has finally dried but as soon as I put one coat of paint on it, it sucked it right in. Now on third coat.

I bought a job lot of dry stone walling off Ebay over a year ago ready for my layout, but never got to that stage. So I decided that a length of it would look good. Filled in the joints with plaster and washed with Agrax Earthshade.

I think the next stage will be ballasting.

I too bought some drywall cheapy ones a long while back and decided to try them on my xmas diorama (Snap!). They are very finely detailed in very hard plaster, very repetitive (I can only see two moulds) and the joins are terrible. Worthwhile to use but do need a bit of extra work to address the badly formed stepped join.

Ballasting done. Used Gaugemaster GM114 but to be honest turned out darker than I thought. I may mix some lighter coloured material in next time.
    Base8.JPG

Laid multiple layers of static grass. Short in field, and longer on bank where grazing animals would not be able to feed.

Cess on either side of siding next.

    Cheers

Looks great Jim , the ballast colour looks like its been down for some time so I wouldn't worry about that. Coming along nicely :tophat:.

    Cheer's, Pete.

I like how you have got the grass turfs rippling up to the stone wall, it reminds of the Derbyshire Peak District and particulaly old photos of the High Peak Line.:tophat:

That's it for the base for now. All the rest is detailing which will be done when the main items are ready to go on.

    Cheers

    Ditto
Still perplexed as to there being no room for buildings!
(I'm guessing we will see some wagon/carriage conversions, holiday homes?)
