As @York Paul made a suggestion earlier on the box file challenge, here’s is some work from a few years ago pre 3D design and print, where I had a go at my own 7mm models in card.

Most of this is made from the 1mm card from the back of the A4 note lads we have at work. They are only going in the bin, so put them to good use. They are usually made during night shifts, or in the evening when kids in bed and wife on nights.

I really must get around to completing it.

I’ll explain what I can with each photo.

I started by making up the basic shell (here built up and including the internal walls)

I have started to add another layer at the bottom that will become the brick work. It’s then painted with a wood knot resin, to avoid moisture and assist with a stage later for the bricks.

    The chimney stack.

The extra layer of card at the bottom has now been given a layer of DAS modelling clay, ready to be engraved for the brick work.

And first fitting of the roof with barge boards.

So then once the main building outline is complete, I moved on to make a representation of the wood work boarding. 5A89F38A-4DAB-423C-9EAE-DD229BB8145B.jpeg 1EB10375-1903-4AFE-9819-781029F993EC.jpeg

I’ve started engraving the brick work too on the chimney. Sadly it was freelance and not near to scale.

Coat of white primer (not sure why I didn’t do the door?) and also the canopy added to the roof.

Painting stage... the roof was a gunmetal colour which have a slate finish on the white primer.

Window bars have been added (strips of thin paper glued over the holes with glass to go behind at a later date. It just made it easier to paint the glazing bars without getting it on the glass. 6C9CEE93-7055-4BD6-9356-EA288D1089C2.jpeg 145322AF-70E3-4D1F-81D9-0A0FFA76ACC9.jpeg C8C4770D-1800-42E7-B20B-07E13318AC72.jpeg 20355FE6-AFE8-44E4-9251-C7A0CE94F0F4.jpeg 269CE526-E3AD-45CD-B7BA-961D0345CCCB.jpeg

Top half given 2 coats, now for the gulf red lower. I’m sure York Paul will say I’ve not quite got the colours right... 29534975-3434-4826-9C99-27A5F4F93C97.jpeg 52F87E56-3D1E-4F5A-AA1B-B387E0308ED6.jpeg FA1C0986-9486-43BB-8BB7-B9F4B668780E.jpeg C0C25F9C-F3C8-4E64-9B0F-B4B063F12451.jpeg B01625AB-7A79-47D2-9A4E-7C6C75C53F8F.jpeg
And that’s pretty much as it was left around 5 years ago or more. Sitting in a box awaiting further. I can’t remember if I made the advertising boards up or not. I think it still needs the glass gluing in and probably a mortar wash over the brick.

It looks pretty good to me Andy :tophat:. A few posters and a bit of a darker wash into the joints on the planking will bring it really to life. The scribed brickwork on the chimney if you had painted it brown, would look like dressed stone. You could tell anyone questioning it "Rule 1"!!!

    Cheer's, Pete.

Ha, yes. True. Thanks for the comments. At the end of the day, it’s a prototype, so things can go wrong.

Nice work there Andy... I remember the original timber building before the hippies set up camp and destroyed what remnants remained that hadn't already been burnt in Johnie Morris's coal fire... they'd have had the overhanging shelter too if there hadn't been a risk of falling into the canal.:avatar:

Again, thanks Kevin. This was the idea when I did them (on Facebook) I just took the photos as I went along. It’s not my best model, but not my worst either.

    Must dig it out
    And finish it

Shocking. Yes I’ve seen photos of it in that state that I think the Late John Burgesss took.
I also managed to get a nice colour shot someone took in the late 1970’s from the canal side for inclusion in the early guide books when I re wrote them for the railway in the early 2000’s.

There was a colour picture I took of Consall in 1972 which depicted the main station complete... on a site visit around that time the interior paneling and stud walling was being sawn away for firewood, the Gents toilet hut had gone and so had the lamp room which no doubt Mr Morris had got through to keep the pub home fires burning on a dark Winter's night. please don't ask why but unfortunately and it is unfortunately but the far majority of my early pictures from that era are now lost.
