    Hello all
I have been building Little Weldon for the last year. This is my first layout since my return to the hobby. My layout is Hornby Dublo 3 rail it is a roundy round these engines just love to run. It measures 11'4" x 5 '10". My aim is to recreate the feel of a layout that would have appeared within the pages of the Meccano Magazine before the introduction of two rail. I have tried to keep all of the modelling consistent to the feel of the range. Where possible I have used contemporary products and have resisted the urge to try newer techniques. Although I have a number of LEDs in the drawer for a future experiment. I hope I haven't bombed you with to many photos.

What a gem. looks like you are a very accomplished modeller. A few ideas and questions to extract some of your knowledge coming up I think. :avatar:

Again, a huge welcome to the forum and I hope you settle in fine and enjoy the camaraderie.

Thanks for posting up your photos.

    Cheers

There are one or two Dublo 3 rail layouts on the UK show circuit presently so there is still interest and demand, despite being 50+ years old. They built them to last back then!

    Hello all
Thank you very much for your kind words gentlemen. I am really enjoying the way that my layout is progressing. Currently I am working on the Locomotive Yard which is proving to be a puzzle as space is so limited. It is an unwritten rule that you can't have a HD layout without a turntable and this is a large item. I cannot squeeze in the Dublo shed as well, I shall have to be creative there. I plan to use both the Superquick Coaling Stage and Ash Plant to. It's a case of squeezing a quart into a pint pot. Piccies to follow when there is something to look at.

    Hello all
A couple of photos to show how the yard is progressing. IMG_20180829_050728.jpg IMG_20190203_055635.jpg IMG_20190203_055606.jpg
As you can see there is not a great deal of space available, the yard is certainly going to look busy. I have added a further two sidings off the turntable. These are both dummy sidings as I didn't want to butcher the turntable they consist of a few sections of Triang series 3 track. I am thinking of creating a 3/4 relief shed for the two parallel sidings at the rear.
Still a way to go yet but the final image is starting to appear to me.

    Hello all
I've had a good session on the Locomotive Yard today the basics of it are now complete. Detailing still to be done. Personnel still to be recruited too.

    Hello all
I have a little dilemma, I don't quite know what colour and how to finish the roadway around the level crossings and Little Weldon station. Around the Goods Shed I would like cobbles. But what to do with the remaining sections I'm not sure of. The "High Street" at Weldon North is at the moment painted with Pier View emulsion with various Black and White acrylic washes and stippeling. Do I continue with this? Any ideas please gentlemen.

Personally I would paint it the same as the High street so as to keep the overall effect the same, you can always overpaint later if you're not happy with it. :scratchchin:

I know all roads are not the same colour in real life butI think that, in model form at least, they should be, as the concentration of detail in a constricted space makes it look rather unfinished or, at any rate, not properly finished, unless they are all the same. I am assuming, of course, that you are not modelling a situation where you want to depict a cobbled or tarred road leading to a dirt track.

Or one where the council or water board have come along and dug a foot wide trench down the middle of the road or the pavement... you don’t see that modelled very often (just a jcb digging the hole)

    Hello all
Many thanks for your responses gentlemen.
I shall lay down Cobbles around the Goods Shed down to the Weighbridge. For this I shall use the same printed sheet as I have used in the Goods Yard. I shall then paint the remaining road surfaces the same as the "High Street" and then take it from there. IMG_20180902_180519.jpg
These Cobbles I sourced from the Inter net several years ago.

    Hello all
I've just been looking through some old pictures and found a few from a year ago, before any scenic work commences. IMG_20180403_051729.jpg
The very first picture just HD.

    Hello all
Whilst looking through the 1959 Hornby Book of Trains, I realized that the Class 20 will be celebrating its 60th Birthday this year. When Meccano introduced this it was one of two engines to have a plastic body the other was the Southern R1 it was also the first Mainline diesel in the roster. This was also the year that two rail was introduced. Alongside this introduction a range of new plastic buildings were also made, from now until production stopped the only cast aluminium building retained was the Signal Box. All part of the grandly entitled "Modernisation plan".
The two rail version of the Class 20 was available in a set which consisted of 5 of the "super detail" wagons.
    16 ton Mineral wagon
    6 ton Refrigerated van (WR)
    20 ton Bulk Grain wagon
    12 ton Vented van
    Goods Brake Van ( LMR)
The three rail version was only available separately, but I have recreated this little train.

Many collectors think that the 1959 Hornby Book of Trains is the finest catalogue that Meccano Ltd
    produced.

    Hello all
A new locomotive arrives at Little Weldon. May I introduce you to D9012 Crepello. This Deltic is in a bit of a disguise. It is actually the 2 rail body on a 3 rail chasis. Pure HD throughout. IMG_20190302_161454.jpg Outside Weldon station during running trials.

Knocked over a box in my garage this morning. A HD Royal Scott headboard for a Deltic dropped out.

That said, I’ve no idea where our Deltic is?
