Wow! well impressed :tophat: as Andy says, subtle differences can make a big difference. Nice one.

Very well thought out. The accessories are well placed and just help to tell the story. Also a very clean build ..... well done

    Hi everyone,

I just realised that I hadn't shared anything about building the handrail between structures 'B' and 'C'. My original plan was to solder it together from .8mm brass wire but I kept melting the previous joins every time I tried to back a new join. I decided to make the uprights from styrene and use the brass wire as the rails. As you will see from the attached picture, I glued some 1mm square styrene to some thing styrene strip leaving gaps for the brass wire to slide through. Once that was done and had been left overnight to dry, I trimmed the uprights to length, inserted the wire and used a small blob of super glue to hold each one in place. I then glued small lengths of square profile aluminium tube to the sides or 'B' and 'C' that bent the ends of the top railing to slot into these as a way of holing it all in place on the model.

Seeing as it is almost the end of the competition I think it is time to share some pics of the finished layout and some clips to show off the little extra thing I have been teasing about for the last few weeks.

Firstly, some more info and pics of the layout. I have decided to call the industry Steen Manufacturing. The reason behind the name is rather simple - Steen is a nickname I use for my husband Steve and most layouts I have made over the past 20 years that we have been together have either had Steen in their name or had an industry or location called Steen as my way of showing my appreciation for the support Steve gives me in the pursuit of this hobby. I have no idea what Steen Manufacturing makes but it will see most types of freight wagons on the premises over it's operational life. The pictures that follow show the layout for several different angles with 10 detail items as per the rules of the competition - lighting, stack of pipes, forklift with driver and load, truck with driver and load, drums on a pallet, stack of timber, workman carrying a crate, workman leaning on a crate, a crate inside structure 'A' and a handrail on top of structure 'A'.

The next few pics show it in the dark with the lights turned on.

Stay tuned for the reveal of the special part of this build as soon as I work out the best way to post a video.

Think only way I found for video is to upload to YouTube and then embed it here.

Looking great. I best crack on and finish mine.

Thanks to Andy, I can now reveal my secret project!

Basically, anyone building a model railway layout can connect power to the track and make trains move but, can they also make a forklift move?

This is all made possible by an Arduino and a servo (and a little basic programming)
I already had 17volts AC coming into the layout to power the point solenoid and the speed controller. I added a bridge rectifier to turn the AC into DC then a voltage regulator to bring it down to 7.5volts. This was then fed into an arduino nano which drops the voltage to 5volts DC and controls the servo. The Servo Sweep code from the arduino library was modified to move the arm from 20 to 180 degrees, wait 10sec, move from 180 to 20 degrees wait 10sec etc. The voltage regulator and ardunio nano live in the conveyor and plug into the power inside structure 'B' and the servo in the 'plant room'. Wire from a large paperclip then runs from the arm on the servo, out through a slot at the bottom of the plant room door and pokes up into a hole in the bottom of the forklift. The stack of pipes at the front acts as a guide to steer the forklift and hides the wire from view when looking at the front of the layout.

The silver clips seen in some of the pics in the thread are for joining this boxfile to the next one and carrying power across the joins.

I guess this just about finishes my build of the Scalescenes Boxfile Layout. The next thing to do will be the adjoining fiddleyard which will be scenic'd using the free Scalescenes Dairy from Hornby Magazine but that build will have to wait as I have a full week ahead of me to tidy up the trainroom for a club visit on Friday.

Please feel free to ask anything you might want to know about any part of this build.

That is great! Little animations on a layout really float my boat! I have a dozen Arduino projects in the pipeline!
It was worth the wait and suspense, (Andy is in trouble! lol). Once I get my valley build out of the way I will get back to Arduino's and get my Windmill working.
Is the servo bracket 3D printed?

Thanks - yes, one of the guys from my local club gave it and the servo to me awhile ago and I'm so please I found a way to use them both.

Great build - think you should be allowed the handrail - Elf & Safety and all that.
