I have to say, when this comp was announced, I had grave misgivings. Asking for identical kits to be built, could only lead to very similar results, barring a complete bodge of the kit (an easy elimination). I know it was difficult as you wanted the Scalescene kit to be used and any major changes to the print would negate using the kit. I also feel limiting the extra's also constrained the difference between competitors, although the two entrants both came up with great choices that would make theirs stand out as different.

My point is, as happened, I suspected choosing a winner would be a nightmare.
Confirmed when I tried to apply my own choice, it fell to 50/50.
I think Toto made the right decision on calling it two 1st's.

Perhaps the lesson here is not to constrain a competition to such a rigid choice of components?

Congrats to both winners :tophat:well deserved both.

    Thank you Toto.

Towards the end I was thinking it might be too close to call.

    Congratulations Andy!

Both locos are very nice and I would happily have either but, seeing as Andy already has an 07, I think I'll take the 07 and let him have the Hunslet Clark.

Now I'll have to get cracking and wire up the sector plate so I can put up a video when it arrives.

    Thanks for running the competition.

    Ian

    Congratulations Ian and Andy
Both really great pieces of modelling
You both put the pressure on Toto.
Just had a review of both models and I agree a tough call and both are worthy winners

Toto great choice with the additional prize of a 07 it’s in a fantastic livery
Ian well chosen I’d have picked the 07 as well it will look right at home with the wasp stripes in the Boxfile.

    Congrats both winners

Even I couldn’t decide and I was building it. Although Ian having the bigger box (Australians do it bigger... but I didn’t see a BBQ?) was a bonus to him for fitting his wonderful fork lift truck movement! That was genius!
I’m grateful to all who have replied congratulating us both! Thanks:tophat:

Just caught up with this, and I'm glad I wasn't the one tasked with picking a winner. Toto's decision was the fairest way to judge two really excellent diorama's, both of which had their 'standout' features, congratulations to both.

The results were excellent. It's amazing the amount of work that goes into these and for what the kits cost I think the modeller gets a lot of enjoyment seeing the end product come together. A great thing to keep you busy over the winter I think.

I hope John Wiffen has maybe had the chance to look in and see the end results. They would make a great advert on his site I think.

    Cheers

    Toto

Well done to both Andy and Ian. You both have completed excellent builds, both with differing additions that make them personalised.

    Cheers, Gary.

It only seems right that the first photos I should take of my prize loco is in the box file which won its merits. (Does that make sense?)

Here is the Heljan Hunslet 0-6-0 diesel.

I need to look at getting a 6 pin decoder for it now. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the real one, so there may be some new research to do soon. I’m sure there will be some detail or painting to do somewhere? But initially out the box, it looks splendid. Heljan have turned up some great detail:- sprung buffers, coupling chain... I don’t know yet if this is fitted with lights or not, guess I will find out when the decoder is fitted.. (May have to wait till pay day!)

Anyway, I love it. It’s a great addiction to my fleet and if not pottering in Spencers Yard, I’m sure you will see it on Oakamoor.
