Sorry Andy, nothing that modern in my collection.

I am a grouping era modeller so i have tended to stick with drawings from either pre group or grouping eras many of which made it in to BR and some into the early 1970's

Depending on how far you wish to go I also have 2 volumes of LMS Wagons by Bob Essery and 2 volumes of Midland wagons also by Bob. These are no longer in print but can be picked up for similar amounts to the Bradford Barton books if you look around at shows - the BB books are all drawings whereas the Essery books are more like the Tatlow LNER Wagons book that you have ordered.

As I said earlier if you have a specific wagon in mind let me know and I will have a look to see what I have.

Forgive me for maybe speaking out of term on this, but if the locos are to be of a modern image (ok 1960/70/80) period, would wagons of the same era not be best to go with these items - and look at the grouping types when you have a steam loco in mind?

    Hi Andy,

I understand where you are coming from but to gain the widest market appeal I would suggest that prototypes that were around from the 1950's onwards would have a better chance of selling in quantity.

In my experience of building items for sale occasionally, if it isn't BR liveried and Western Region, then there is a lot less interest

As far as scottish pre-grouping wagons are concerned, "Caledonian Railway Wagons" and "More on Caledonian Wagons" published by the Caledonian Railway Association and Lightmoor Press are well worth getting your hands on.

    Fair comment...

Being a midlands lad, I have no interest in anything Green Wet Or Rusty! Other than the 2-6-4 Prarrie - that I do like.

2-6-4 tank engines were great... I really liked the 42000 Fairburn tanks at Macclesfield. :avatar:

I hear you Andy, I am of the same view, except that my key interest stems from the other side of the Pennines but that's what bitter experience has shown that many people want:(.

Sadly for you and I more than, anything kit's from Highlander do need to be commercially viable.

Ha, yes your not wrong there..

I wonder if though, we are maybe talking cross purposes on era. As I’m only 1976 origin, I only remember the latter non air brakes stuff and those boring MGR wagons in Notts...

I’m sure there were much older items still in regular service prior to then. So to me, modern image is mainly diesel and what ran with them in what i can remember (or research before Paul corrects me on the NSR stuff I learn about!!) and anything else is non modern image.. I was mearly suggesting something in period with the diesels, but I realise from what your saying that it could well be appropriate but from a much earlier era.
    Badly worded on my behalf.

    Thanks Gary,

I'll wade through that lot tonight. No shortage of materials that's for sure. The aim is for an initial half dozen or so popular / saleable designs and maybe the addition of a couple that are not so widely covered.

    Cheers

    Toto

Here is a list of BR standard wagons which range from the 1960 to 1980 period and would have been seen all over the country and on every region. These are from my time on BR which I can remember.

22Ton Vac fitted Tube wagon Lot 2336 built 1959 Darlington, fitted with Hybox axle boxes and corrugated ends.
    42Ton Boplate Lot 2133 built 1950 Shildon.
25.5Ton Sand (HJO HJV) hopper Lot 2733 built 1956 Shildon, some modified to carry 30Ton for special aggregate traffic.
13Ton unfitted Ore hopper Lot 2129 built 1950 Shildon.

    Some departmental wagons.

20Ton Shark plough brake (the BR standard version) Lot 3285 built 1962 Central Wagon Works Wigan
50Ton Sturgeon bogie rail carrier Lot 2895 built 1955 Head Wrightson.
25Ton Gannet ballast hopper Lot 2179 built 1951 Met Camm.
14Ton Mermaid side tipping hopper ballast Vac fitted Carrington Buffers Lot 3349 built 1961 Met Camm

Some pre nationalised stock (design perpetuated by BR)

NE Staff riding van and PW brake built 1948 (used in Scotland) 15' wheelbase and 27' over headstocks design originates with NER.
12Ton vent van (LMS design) Lot 2003 built1949 Wolverton.
LNER 4 wheeled "BY" passenger parcels van built 1933 York.

Also a decent buildable LMS Stove R six wheel passenger parcels brake van Lot 1262 built 1940 Wolverton.

Just a few to think about, the examples outlined above are not to my knowledge manufactured in O Gauge.
