Is that Barclay a kit or a scratch-build?

It is a really nice model. If you can post the link I'd be particularly interested in how you did the cylinders and outside connecting rods. That one has always defeated me.

Right back to the job in hand, I have not been to good on me feet for a while but boredom forced me back into the shed where I sprayed the new track to match the original and have built the extension to the station platform, I've also started painting the loading dock timber frontage and will do the stations platform once the glue has dried on the extension.
    A few photos.

I've plonked the engine shed at the end but it may be that I put some coal staithes at that end.

    Thats it for now, Pete.

Sorry to hear that you haven't been so good Pete and glad to see that you are finding a bit of distraction from modelling - doing something that you enjoy is good therapy.

I had a session in the shed today as the temp' had dropped a little. The first job was to repair the 3 way point as one of the switch rails had come adrift. Unfortunately I wasn't able to just re-solder the rail back on as the copper clad had lifted too. So first job was to make a new tie bar, removing the old one was a PITA but I managed it and used it as a pattern for the new one. I also moved it slightly further up so the rail had more solder grip.

    IMG_2205.JPG

My biggest surprise was I hadn't soldered every thing solid and it all worked well!!
Still needs painting to match but I'm dead chuffed with it :avatar:

After sorting that I decided to paint some of the baseboard top with black poster paint with some PVA mixed in.
Then once that had dried, not long to wait it was still so hot in the shed, I glued down some polystyrene by the loading/cattle dock ramp to replicate a little that on the real Thaxted station.

    IMG_2208.JPG

Once the glue has dried I will shape it a bit better before slapping some filler on top.

    Thats all for now.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Great work Pete, must say it takes some doing a repair to pointwork in situ particularly a three way point and on the tie bar at that... not a job for the faint hearted I'd think. Your trackwork and layout arrangement is looking super BTW. :tophat::tophat::tophat::tophat::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Its been a while since posting an update but these last couple of weeks I seem to have found my mojo again.
Anyway I glued some more foam down, carved it to shape and today slapped some coloured filler on top. Once it has dried I will give it a bit of a sanding and put some static grass on top.
    IMG_2238.JPG
Next up I have started painting the platform top to prepare it to have the surface glued on. The Great Eastern used ash for their platform surfaces so I am going to replicate this with fine sand glued down with pva, painting the card surface should hopefully stop the pva causing the card to blister and warp. I have left the areas where the station buildings clear of paint so I know where to spread the glue and where to leave it clear that way the buildings should sit in the sand and not on top.
    IMG_2239.JPG
If I'm allowed by the gaffer, I will make a start on the last building tomorrow then I can finish the platform and glue it in place.

    Cheer's, Pete.

The gaffer had other ideas! Anyway, I managed a couple or 3 hours today and managed to get some modelling in.
I spread a load of pva on the approach to the loading dock then sieved some soil on top after which I sprayed it with a mix of water pva and ipa to fix it in place.
    IMG_2241.JPG
I will give it a light brush once it has had time to dry to check it is all fixed.

    Cheer's, Pete.

A return to Thaxham. I made a start on the small, I imagine what was a parcels office or similar, building at the end of the platform next to the loading dock. This is an image of the one on Thaxted station and what I'm hoping to recreate for Thaxham. There have been several posts on here and other forums I visit plus in magazines etc about setting buildings into the ground surface for greater realism, but I have just noticed the shed on the platform appears to be floating around an inch or so from the ground ;).

and here are the parts I've made from foam board and card.

I will fix the walls together next time and carry on with the panels.

First two walls glued together and clamped to hold square in a Lego jig first, to me, suggested and used by Gary.
The second pair of walls have been painted matt black inside and will be assembled tomorrow once the first two have set.

why did I never think of using Lego for keeping walls straight and at 90 degrees?

Not my idea mate, I borrowed it from Gary. I wouldn't use it for assembling plasticard though. :)

More assembly done on the platform shed building, porters office perhaps?
I glued the sides and ends together and finished the timber ( card ) planking/framing. Then assembled the roof from mount board with foam board inner strengtheners. I decided to make the roof removable as it was easier to glue it up that way, plus I could put some lights and detail inside should I choose in the future.

I think the next job will be to make a start on the painting, then finish the roof add guttering and "felt" the roof with masking tape painted grey.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Like the idea of the foam board for strength Pete, is there any specific type you use? Might consider this for my retail unit roofs.

Pete I have just caught up on your O gauge layout thread, I like the colour you have sprayed the track.
Your model of the building is coming along nicely and look forward to seeing it painted.
