Definitely will be doing the posters and black boards, although I hadn't thought about the door numbers. Thanks Kimbo !

    Cheers, Gary.

I used the same method you had used for the gutters and the down pipes are old lengths of sprue from kits. Sprue is useful as it can be used as down pipes, water lines and oil/fuel pipe lines as well as many other uses. The awning supports are from L-Cut Creative. They are remarkably strong for such thin laser cut wood (card...). ;)

    Cheers, Gary.

After building and painting the Laser Cut Railway Models station building kit, knowing how good they go together and how sturdy they are, I ordered one of their Goods Shed kits last night...

    see here : https://www.lasercutrailwaymodels.co.uk/Fine-Scale-O-Gauge-Goods-Shed

It will have to go under the knife as it is far too wide to fit the area where I wish to site it. I will be modelling only 3/4 of the shed, reducing the height as it will straddle the platform (maybe), remove a portion of roof, portion of the side walls, the whole back wall (road/canopy side) office wall, end wall (door end) and have the model built with an open back, full of the details that hibernate inside a goods shed, including a crane.

    Should be interesting...

    Cheers, Gary.

That`s a nice kit Gary and really quite different to what we normally see.
Your mods sound interesting but I`m sure it will come up trumps as usual........:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Just had a thought about the tension-lock couplers you were using. I reckon what you need to do is extend the angled front of the hook, perhaps with some brass rod/wire to cover the variations in height. Of course, being a long-term O gauger I would recommend moving entirely to 3-links with the first two links in brass and the last one in steel.

    Hi Martin,

I have been thinking about installing all 3 links, but a chap on another group done some testing for me and he has 3' radius curves on his layout and uses Spratt & Winkle couplers. I may even venture down that route instead.

    Cheers, Gary.

Are you planning on doing them single or double-ended? If you don't turn your stock around, you only need to fit a bar on one end and it is a bit simpler and cheaper overall, but you have to point all your stock in the same direction.

Hi Martin, apologies for late reply as I have been quite busy lately.

I'm not going to rush into the couplers at the moment as there is plenty to do elsewhere on the layout. I like what you have suggested regarding placing the couplers on one end only, interesting concept, but then I'm guessing the locos and brake vans would need to have hook and bar one each end.

Still need to decide if I'll go along with 3 link or S&W... :scratchchin:

Anyway, earlier this week a parcel arrived for me...

It is the Laser Cut Railway Models O gauge goods shed kit. Just like the station building kit I purchased back in May, this goes together much the same. What I will have to do is line the inside walls with some L-Cut brick sheet as the shed will be open on the back for viewing.

So, a couple of pics of what I'm in for...

There will be quite a lot of 'measure twice, cut once' going on as the full width of the shed does not fit the layout. I'll also model the office interior as well as that will be sliced down as well. Basically what I will be doing is reducing the kit to approximately 2/3s its actual width. The red shaded area in the pic below is what I will be removing, maybe a little more...

    More as it happens.

    Cheers, Gary.

Finally got around to looking at what I need to do to fit the goods shed onto the layout. Apart from cutting the shed down in size, there is more to it than meets the eye... :whatever:

After removing the platform from the layout, I pieced two end walls and the exterior (rail side) wall together and positioned it on the layout, using a few wagons on the parallel track as a guide to how much space I need to fit the goods shed in in comfortably....

As you can see from the photo above, the track through the goods shed needs some gentle persuasion to the left, or I should say towards the edge of the baseboard.

The next photo shows where the join in the baseboard is and it shall be fun realigning the two separate sections of track back up, as this was laid as one piece with copper clad sleepers, nailed into position then cut with the dremel.

By manipulating the track to move it across closer to the baseboard edge will mean the length of track between the points and the baseboard join needs to be extended. Luckily there is a small piece of track that I had to use to extend the goods siding with (see below). This piece will need to be removed and a slightly longer section put back in its place, enabling the track to line up with the entrance of the shed equally.

Now to de-solder the wires from the rails, lift the track and reposition it. Once that is done, the tape measure and bricksaw will be called upon. I just have to remember that mantra, "measure twice, cut once, measure twice, cut once..."

    Cheers for now,

    Gary.

Not much has happened on the layout over the last 6 months, apart from purchasing the above items and the Heljan Class 128 DPU. I haven't had the chance to run the DPU and as I'm off work today (Friday 28/02) and the decoders I purchased have arrived, it was time to get the DPU running prior to decoder installation.

    Cheers, Gary.

Build both and run with a simple non scenic length between to suit venues, then you can do convincing train operations, with a timeable - will make exhibitions more interesting :)

Wow..., I have not done anything on this layout for some time...

I have been thinking about a redesign of the track plan using the track I have. Yes, it's a pain to do, but hey, it may just get the juices flowing again... This would mean new baseboards and such, as I would like them that little bit wider than the 500mm I currently have. Then again, just a rethink on the layout maybe easier than a total upheaval of the track. I would like to remove the curved section on the layout and replace that with a conventional fiddle yard, as that track is a very tight radius.

    Decisions, decisions... :scratchchin:

Oh, I did have a slip on the key board this morning.... https://railsofsheffield.com/bundle...no-6417-with-gwr-autocoach-no-39-twin-cities-

Great price if I do say so myself..., besides, sometimes I need to treat myself ! :D

    Cheers, Gary.

Gary, that’s probably one of the best “slips” you could have. I’ve got the Lion Heart set and there was a “5 “ in the price I paid, and it wasn’t at the end or middle !!
Tricky decision to make, but in the long run it might be better to bight the bullet and build new boards To allow you to get the trackwork as you want it.
Look forward to seeing you get this project back on line.

One of two new arrivals landed on at my door this morning... I was looking forward to sleeping in, but when your waiting for a parcel (or two), you answer the door at 7.15am !
This being parcel one of two sent from RoS, a Dapol Pannier 64XX ! Haven't run it yet, but here is a bunch of pics...

One quite noticeable thing is teh packaging..., no more clear plastic crate and sleeve ! This has been replaced with styrofoam...

The second noticeable thing is the size of the packaging, much smaller than what Dapol's 57XX and Jinty come in....

It looks to be a lovely model, but with the foam packing much tighter, you find the hoses turned up on the locomotive. No issue really, they just turn back around.

The green livery looks good, numbers applied neatly as well as the GWR roundel. I did find one of the steam pipes under the chassis was loose. A spot of glue will fix this.

Just like all of Dapol's locomotives, the cab is well detailed...

The locomotive takes a 21 MTC decoder, which I'm sure I have a spare. A good run back and forth on the layout is due, but will have to dust off the layout first. Then I'll set about fitting a decoder.

Now I'm waiting for delivery of the autocoach...

    Cheers, Gary.
