I can have a guess which one is, but the other I have no idea. If there is anything you may require, send me a PM.

    Cheers, Gary.

Not good hopefully not one of our main retailers,
What sort of issues are you having.
As Gary said if it’s something we can help with let us know, or a specific part or model and we can keep an eye out for it.
Best of luck for a happy outcome

As those of you kind enough to follow this thread will know the far end of the garage has always been known as the gorge end and the theory was you were looking down on the trees/railway with a cliff face hiding the back wall of the garage. The trees, bushes and rocks are located on some old floor tiles covered with some plaster, painted green and then covered with greenery etc. In fact I refreshed these earlier in the year as it was all looking a bit sad..

At the very front there was an untidy strip which I meant to develop into a river bed one day but never really got round to. Thee other week whilst surfing matters model railway I came across a discussion on RM Web (I hope this disloyalty doesn't see me barred) about modelling beaches and had one of those lightbulb moments. I experimented a little with Woodland Scenics sand but it was a bit to wet looking for what I wanted but one post recommended Pets at home desert sand for reptile houses (hmmm wonder if our snakes would like it)

One quick visit to the York branch and a 5kg bag was in my mits and once my domestic chores were complete (about midnight), glue in hand I got to work creating the top of the beach at what is now the beach end. Still a bit of work to do disguising the edges of the tiles and getting a good mix of rock, sand and foliage so the attached are work in progress.

We'll kind of see where this goes but having seen this picture (link below) I kind of get the feeling there may be some costal erosion sometime next year.

We have the builders in at home so Wallace Creek has been taking a little bit of a back seat whilst that is being managed. There has been some progress on the kadeeisation of the fleet with the G and Blue 81 now fitted thanks to acquiring some parts from Train World in Brighton (Melbourne). Having had a poor run of trying to get any sense out of two Australian suppliers it was nice to see a mob who turned my order around in 24 hours. Will use them again. As well as the gizmos for the conversion I ordered some HA wagons as well. These are Victorian Railway make do wagons converted form the GYs with more capacity before the bigger bogied grain wagons became the norm. VR apparently had a reputation for this and the models (Auscision) are a nice addition to the layout. I have also converted a couple of the old LIMA GY wagons to Kadee so they can operate as a part GY/part GH train. When I run them together the quality difference between the two is noticeable - one is a cheap and cheerful model - the other a tad more expensive.

The Lima models were on of the first block trains I bought from various sources and the conversion to Kadee was relatively painless. More to follow over the winter months. The other early block train was the Lima National Rail AOBX or "greens" as they are known in Wallace Creek parlance. These carry pipe loads or run empty and have been weathered in that (ahem) distinctive Wallace Creek way. Good if you look at them from a distance according to regular operator Nick.

These proved a bit more challenging as the well where the Kadee box was going to sit was well beneath the lip of the wagon. However a very old Hornby water tank base was sacrificed to add some useful bits of plastic and they too have been running today with a add at each end and intermediate lima couplers. More conversions to follow.

I had a look at my beloved 42213 (Unofficial name Selina) with a thought to whether that would be a quick conversion as I was n something of a roll. Looks difficult so next stop is the internet to see if there area "any how to convert" videos.

A couple of photos of the new wagons in action. Oh I also got a former VR van (Freight Australia livery) for a bargain price via the Facebook buy and sell group and gave one of my UK models a run out to see if I could persuade myself to buy another one from Hattons who ae selling them off cheap. I decided no at least until my UK shuning layout is up and running but that's another story.

With regards to the fitting of Kadees to the Lima 422 it is possible. Not sure how easy it is to find the adaptors (sometimes called pilots) new these days. You may come across some NOS ones for auction from time to time.
The main issue with them is the lack of space between the buffer beam and the bogies. The adaptor that I had fitted between the original pilot and the bogie, this reduced the amount of movement of the bogies markedly, to the point that it couldn't even manage large radius points. I had to remove as much material of the adaptor as I was game to, and remove a fair bit of unseen parts of the ends of the bogies too.
They are a nice engine, probably the best Aussie Lima in my opinion.
    Cheers
    Tony

Oh dear a minor disaster at Wallace Creek. We have had Bodgit and Scarper making some changes to the house just recently and the other day whilst I was mid conference the rain started coming down quite precipitously. Bodgit stuck his head round the dorr and asked if we could place the saw inside the garage just under to door until it stopped. Not a problem and I thought no more about it. What I hadn't realised was they were going to continue sawing and the layout was duly covered with a layer of dust. So I have spent today hoovering and deep cleaning the layout rather than an operating/KD conversion day which I'd have enjoyed far more. Builders, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I would watch them very carefully...if their level of perspicacity is as evidenced by the outcome on your layout, what else may they get up to?

Damn ! Keep an eye on Bodgit and Scarper...

    Cheers, Gary.

Edit * Is your 42213 a Lima model ?? If yes, you can purchase a new front pilot for the Lima 422 which allows for the Kadee couplings. I have used No.5s on my old model, that I can not find ! I did remove the small screw/pin lugs on each side of the coupler box after gluing the box together with a little mek then screw the coupler box to the pilot.

Yes, these too allow for the fitment of Kadee no.5s as well. I had a look for my 422 and could not find it but here are a few pics of the Lima 44 with the pilots fitted.

    No.1 end...

    No.2 end...

    Cheers, Gary.

Well its nice to be back on the Platform 1 front page and the picture is 42 class no 4205 (a Trainorama model) crossing the bridge end of the layout and approaching Wallace Creek.
Getting hold of these pilots is tricky so if anyone reading this has any spare or spots some in their local model shop please let me know. Otherwise I think I may retain a rake of passenger and some freight stock with lima/powerline kadees until I feel confident and competent enough as a modeller to engineer my own solution. We're probably talking about 10 years here......:scratchchin:
I have written to Trainworld (no) and Casula Hobbies (awaiting reply) - please let me know of any other shops that might be worth e-mailing.
    Thanksall.

Well here's a bolt out of the blue. An e-mail from Ian Storrie (Ian Lindsay models) saying that he has produced some 44 and 422 pilots and some are now winging their way to Wallace Creek right now! Points failure in the wall sidings so the engineers on site yesterday and this was after a 4 hour gardening session in sweltering heat.

Today I gritted my teeth and took on converting my entire Lima GY fleet to Kadee. This was relatively straight forward and although one or two fought me, all ten were complete in three hours or so and run round the layout (all routes both directions). Not a glitch. I joked above about confidence and there is a lot to that in this game. Sure I read about and admire the marvellous modelling that goes on elsewhere on these pages, but being a cack-handed amateur it's sometimes hard to pick up the tools and get on with it. I find these things difficult but with practice getting easier and I am sure there are others out there who are in the same boat as well.

You bet there are!!!and we all share the same issues in one way or another, Just accept it, be happy with what you achieve and get on with the next task.

    Cheers

    and happy modelling

Well said mate. None of us are born experts, we all learn what we are good at and what we need to try harder. The sense of achievement when you find you can do something is great. Sometimes you feel you are banging your head against a wall but when things come together nicely, the pleasure in modelling is increased ten fold.

Well done Dave :tophat:. Onwards and upwards mate.

    Pete.

The operating season at Wallace Creek is nearly at an end and its been a disappointing end in some ways assisted by atrocious weather and too much decorating eating into the precious little time left. In fact I am writing this in between coats of the living room - when will this end. Well October 31st (no not because of Brexit) but because we fly to Australia and I get a chance to sample a little of the real thing as well as visits to Dargan and Gary's house to see their work in the flesh (so to speak). We're visiting Tasmania and Selina has promised me at least two railway visits as well as Melbourne - Sydney and Sydney - Casino by XPT. Probably a gunzelling day in the Sydney suburbs (Marrickville and Leightonfield) and a final day bashing some Brisbane lines. Can't wait. Oh and a visit to Casula Hobbies and Aurora (Brisbane) are also on the cards. Can't wait....oh and beaches, scenery, walks, red wine and lashings of Victoria Bitter (one of these is a fib).
Not too much to report on the railway front - after some 5 weeks the pilots from Ian Lindsey models have turned up and the Lima 44s and 442 are all lined up for conversion. Most of the freight stock is now done and generally most sessions are all kadee. Still a few intermediate Lima type couplings but I will change these out in the winter.
A couple of new V-line vans arrived via the very efficient Trainworld and I now have enough vans for a Vline or a VR rake. I have also realised now I am getting more fussy about running trains with the right loco matching the right stock (at lest in terms of operator if not dates).
One puzzler though - my 8o class is giving trouble. It can do a circuit light engine but when coupled to anything there are two or three places where it just shorts out. I cut back the kadee couplers but that has made not difference and given all sensitive areas a good clean but no change. Any suggestions welcome (in non technical language please!).

    Dave
