Thanks Dundee Paul, I do have some reels of copper and silver jewelry wire which I am using to make a telephone pole route on my Elton Crossing layout, but I'll check out the range you have suggested.

Now here's an old thread resurrected. The stalled loco build has sat looking at me for some considerable time now and I couldn't bare it any longer, a few days ago I set to with full intention of completing the loco and getting it running, really all that was needed was to finish the motion and add the remaining body items. So working on dressing the firebox assembly I prepared this lost wax casting and guess what...

... I've lost the thing somewhere in the workshop and cannot find it. This picture is of another one from my Britannia kit, the casting sits on top of the firebox behind the safety valves and in forward of the can spectacle plate. Can anyone tell me what this item is called ? I can order a replacement from Ragstone but need to know exactly what I'm ordering. Thanks chaps.

Emergency over... the multiway doofer is now found... it was glinting in this mornings sunlight on the gravel just nearby the workshop doorstep. So its onward with forming the plumbing routes which are fitted on the firebox and then I'll join the boiler assembly to the cab and body footplate to complete that part of the build. Pictures to follow once the work has reached an interesting stage.

Now you have confused me already, I don't know what it is in fact I don't know the name of any of these castings for steamers. But this one does now have a nice smokebox numberplate fitted 75030 and a 5D shedplate.

And this is where the multiway doofer thingamajig goes :avatar:

Notice how nicely these JH hand drawn firebox wrapper etches all line up so perfectly not only as a pair of sides but also to the cab front as well. I'm not even going to begin describing the level of jiggery pokery needed to get this assembly to fit in the correct plane and relative to the cab, needless to say it involved a lot of filing at its base in order to get the firebox to sit at the proper height... I have scale drawing for this loco, I'll clean everything up before adding in the plumbing.

Here you are Toto... I knew you'd want a picture of it... as an old friend now departed would have said "Oh look Philip there's a Standard Tank"... Ted Ball ex Stoke 5D steam fitter rest in peace. 75030 and 84003 in their up and coming glory.

Just a comparison of difference between two BR Standard smokebox fronts, for the benefit of our newer members both locos are from the old Acorn stable and have been reworked by Scorpio Models. The 2-6-2 tank on the left was a doddle to build... in fact I started it Christmas before last and had the main of it put together by mid January 2018, not the same for the Standard class 4 on the right which basically threw up every build issue known to mankind. Funnily enough its tender went together like a dream once I'd fiddled around with the coal fall plate angles.

On a slightly different subject for anyone wondering why the large doors in the background look to be in such a poor state the answer is because I'll shortly be extending the workspace outwards with a glass wall frontage, this will then offer a much better working environment for access and natural light.

75030 chassis being run in on the rolling road, after a few niggles I sett the motor position and gearing so this loco runs sweet in both directions and reasonably quite as well. Now to complete fitting the rest of the motion.

The front end beam detail is now mainly complete apart from fitting the footstep brackets, Toto will note that the broken back window has now been replaced with a pair of french doors in uPVC plastic, well how posh are we what with our venitian window blinds as well :avatar: I have to say the workshop doesn't contain a fridge and a micro cooker as is in our Toto's workshop ... but then he doesn't have two different access doors like mine has.:avatar::avatar::avatar:

Indeed Toto, these new uPVC french doors are quite amazing and they open effortlessly as you will see when you and Dundee next visit :avatar:

A close up of the front end beam detail, the coupling is a Slater's offering which I modified with a scratch built turn handle as the Slaters one was way too chunky looking. The vacuum pipe elbow was also modified to match a BR standard low bracket pipe.

And finally the pose picture which shows the body fitting nicely in position on the frames... this took an enormous amount of time filing and trimming to get right but it was worth it I think. I can finish the bodyshell now as I know the motor assembly clears the inside firebox so that means the motion can be completed as well. the rubber draft curtain between tender and cab will be made from spray painted tissue paper for best realism. Here 75030 stands waiting for the road next to a Midland Railway signal gantry.

    I don't have a fridge ....... yet.

Really looks great. You can see why folks enjoy building kits. Enormous self satisfaction to be taken from producing the finished product.

Now ..... whilst we're on the continental theme. It's time I got to the Italian with Lynne. A birthday treat for her.

    Catch you guys later.

    Cheers

    Toto
