    Hello all
Thanks for your comments Andy. You are probably correct in saying this style of window is unlikely to be found in this type of architecture. I should have said that this little row of Terraced housing is very much an experimental piece. It was the first time that I had used Linka after having found the moulds at a car boot sale a month or so ago. So I am trying out differing methods of construction, plasters, glue, joint filling and painting.

Very commendable. I would like to have ago at this one day, I feel it’s something that came and went before my time. Don’t let my comments put you off, especially if it’s a trial. I’ll keep me trap shut... :avatar::thumbs:

    Hello all
Little Weldon's Castle build is steadily creeping onwards. I have now created a set of Latex moulds to enable me to cast each elevation of the Keep in one piece. I have designed this to be viewed from inside the layout. So two of the textured faces are internal. This helps to create the illusion of solid walling. Hello all
The Prime Directive of non interference has been broken. There have been numerous sightings of Starfleet officers on the streets of Little Weldon. IMG_20190616_184451.jpg Captain James T Kirk, Mr Spock and Montgomery Scott.

    Hello all
After a month of neglect I have been able to spend some time over the weekend working on the development of Little Weldon's Castle. I have assembled the outer walls of the Keep around a card floor. I have introduced this to a/ strengthen the structure b/ to form a base for the flooring slabs, tiles c/to make it easier to paint d/ a base for the internal walls. The collapsing internal walls I have made using standard Linka tiles suitably ruined. My thoughts are now turning to the Bailey walls. These are going to have to be built in situ as they will be following the contours of the landscape. IMG_20190715_060921.jpg IMG_20190715_060937.jpg IMG_20190715_060947.jpg

    Hello all.
I have now started construction of the Castle's Bailey walls unfortunately due to space constrictions I am only going to be able to build one rather than the more usual two sets. But as I'm hoping to achieve an impression of a Castle hopefully it will work out OK. I am constructing the Walls in standard Linka Stone walling tiles, these I am assembling in panels. The reason for this is hopefully it will be easier to paint them off board. A program of deforestation has been implemented along the wall line. Due to the nature of the landscaping these tiles are being shaped both top and bottom with some having further tiles fixed to the tops. IMG_20190721_081233.jpg
The walls have been temporarily propped up in place with plastacine. To gain a feeling for how it will look. In the the slope I think I might be able to include a Watch Tower. I shall have to see what other space is created before I decide on any further out buildings.

    Hello all
I have not been able to spend any time on Little Weldon's Castle over the last few weeks. So no progress to show you. However I was going through some files on a very nearly dead laptop when I discovered a couple of photos of the layout which preceded Little Weldon. This was constructed in a specially designed and built piece of furniture in our living room. The layout itself folded out into a baseboard measuring 5' x 3' the hinges were hidden by the bridge on the right hand side and the Water Tower on the left. The Water Tower has survived and is now in use in Weldon Shed. All the stock that I ran on this mini layout was produced by Meccano Ltd between 1948 when production restarted after Second World War, and 1953 when HD changed into British Railways liveries. 157 (1) (1).jpg 156a.JPG
Whilst tidying up a few weeks ago I came across my small collection of Bayko. A constructional toy which was contemporary with Hornby toys indeed it was later purchased by Meccano Ltd. In scale it is closer to O gauge than OO. IMG_20190603_051001.jpg IMG_20190603_051014.jpg

    Hello all
I have had a productive weekend working the landscaping of Castle Hill,I have removed the Kentish Rag Stone outcrop and filled the remaining cavity with plaster I have also re modelled the area immediately outside the Keep. After having a weeks marathon of casting tiles I have produced enough to enable construction to be completed. I have also managed to finish the never ending job of creating the Bailey Wall. I have also started construction of the Watch Tower this will hopefully house a smoke unit which I am hoping will be able to create some most effects. For that romantic ruined Castle look. I shall have to survey the remaining land to see if there is any more space available for further out buildings. IMG_20190819_055115.jpg IMG_20190819_055144.jpg

    Hello all
Breaking news. The construction of Weldon's Castle is now complete. There is still a fair bit of work to do a little localised filling, painting and then bedding down into the hill side. Finally finishing of with the landscaping. But now it's time to have a good clear up and run some trains. IMG_20190825_184949.jpg IMG_20190825_185048.jpg

I also went the way of putting a good Crepello body on a 3 rail chassis (probably from a Co-Co rather than a Deltic, but who knows) as I had no intention of paying the inflated prices that genuine St Paddys command. Then, a few months later, I visited eBay to find that someone had just listed a St Paddy in excellent condition as a Buy it Now item, with an asking price that was around the same (or maybe even a bit less) as I paid for my Crepello body and Co-Co chassis. Needless to say, I clicked on Buy it Now as soon as I had checked out the photos and description. I now have two Dublo Deltics and two green Dublo Co-Co locomotives. One of the Co-Cos has been badly repainted at some point in its history. I will either repaint it in BR Rail Blue and name it "Meld" (the first Deltic I ever encountered, back in 1975 at Montrose on a train to Aberdeen) or modify it and paint it as the prototype Deltic - I'm not sure which way to go - maybe I need to get another Dublo Co-Co so I can do both......

Isn't that interesting Wolseley because the first Deltic I ever encountered was 9003 Meld on the stop block at Kings Cross, it must have worked a train down from Edinburgh as the release engine was 9001 St Paddy according to my notes dated July 1972 ... both being 34G Finsbury Park allocations.

I can remember building with Bayko when I was a kid, had hours of fun. Nice job on the castle

    Hello all
There is a new addition to the Locomotive roster at Little Weldon. Canadian Pacific No 1218 she is a replica of sister engine 1215. The original HD product was made for export only, therefore one of the rarer items in the range. 1218 has been made from a rather battered Duchess of Atholl as were the original Meccano Ltd models. Like all her cousins she runs like a dream easily coping with the heaviest train on Little Weldon. I am particularly pleased that the Cow Catcher does not foul on anything as both original's and replica's are notorious for. IMG_20190911_053004.jpg IMG_20190911_052927.jpg

I found that mine kept hitting the housing of one of the electric points on my layout that was positioned immediately after a curve. The problem was solved by inserting a quarter straight between the curve and the point. I do find though that I have to be very careful turning it around on the turntable - a gentle push backwards half an inch or so is usually needed when the cowcatcher passes by the locking bar.

I think that the "Canadian" Duchess is a rather attractive loco and would have been quite convincing if it were not for the short tender. In any case, it's something different. I normally run mine with a rake of Pullmans, which I think suit it better than any other Dublo rolling stock.

    Hello all
The painting of Little Weldon's Castle has started with the Bailey Wall. I have chosen to use acrylics for this, as the Castle is constructed using plaster these are drying quickly enabling a rapid build up of layers. I have used a warm cream as a base coat this has given a lovely colour for the Mortar. Upon this I have applied several dry brush coats of a mid brown varying the amount applied, building up the colour in some areas. Over this I have dry brushed two different yellows again varying the quantity of paint build up. The next stage has been to pick out random stones with a dark brown followed by another brown between mid and dark. Finally I have used a very dry brush of black over the whole wall. Lovely work Dublo, a cream basecoat is always a good start point to build differing hues of colour onto.:tophat:
