Here is the cover of the first catalogue for 1938/9. Production was halted during 1940 for the duration of the second world war, restarting in 1948 those early post-war models were for export only it took some time before they were available on the home market. Some items from the pre war range were never reintroduced post war the clockwork versions of the locomotives along with the associated track work and the articulated Teak Coaches.

    Happy 81st Birthday Hornby Dublo.

    Hello all
Work is continuing on Little Weldon's Castle with all of the Bailey Walls, the Keep and Watch Tower all attached the baseboard. Flooring has now been added to the Keep. The pieces have been set into the landscape with plaster applied to plug any gaps. The final landscaping has yet to be done. The next piccies will be of the completed project.
I would appreciate it if any of you have any ideas on how I could possibly achieve my plan of a misty atmosphere around the ruined keep. The Hornby smoke unit which I purchased to experiment with does not produce a fan of smoke which is more in line with the effect that I am after. When I have introduced a flue to achieve this the smoke dissipates to much before it reaches the hillside. The unit itself is housed in the Watch Tower the aim was to have the smoke coming out from under the elevation facing the Keep and to gently roll up the hill to its base.
I appreciate that the unit was not designed for this use so I will probably use it in the Sand Dryers chimney.
Thanks for all your kind words about Little Weldon's Castle project.

    Hmm. That’s in interesting question.
I’ve seen it done with the dry ice machines, and also I think one of those infusers that vaporises the water, but using real water for mist like that may have a long term effect, not on your health but the plaster of the building.
Other smoke units may be oily or leave an oily residue behind.

what you need to think is smoke rises due to heat... mist clings to the ground due to cold

Back in the mid 1960s I had a Tri-ang Lord of the Isles with a Seuthe smoke unit. The locomotive ended up coated in oil after operating with the smoke unit working - it didn't do the paper overlays on the driving wheel splashers much good. I'm not sure about what's available now, but back then the vaporised oil had an unusual, but not unpleasant, almost sweet, smell. I also had a Minic Motorway Foden truck with a Seuthe smoke unit. It would coat itself and the roadway in an oily film, which even got onto the tyres.

    Hello all
Little Weldon's Castle is now open to the public. Works having been completed just a short while ago. There have been reports of a rather elegantly dressed white haired gentleman leaving a Police box which has mysteriously just arrived. He seems rather frantic and keeps asking after somebody called Jo.

    Hello all
I've been experimenting with lighting on Little Weldon's up platform. I feel that it needs a bit of fine tuning but the initial results are encouraging. Once I have wired up the down platform and buildings and maybe some street lighting I shall look at dimming then down a touch. IMG_20191117_142703.jpg IMG_20191117_142718.jpg

    Hello all
After a successful afternoon yesterday all of Little Weldon station and its immediate vicinity have now been lit. There is still a little tweaking to do here and there but overall I am happy with the results. I have ordered a dimming control and are awaiting its delivery. Just the rest of the layout to tackle next, this will have to be done in stages. Although I now have a clearer idea of the quantities of leds that I need I shall order enough to complete this project. IMG_20191124_062130.jpg

    Hello all
I have been reflecting on how much Little Weldon has evolved over the course of this year. The first major item of scenery was the development and landscaping of the Locomotive Yard. This was completed at the end of January, following on from this was the painting and Cobble laying of the final sections of roadways outside Little Weldon station itself. One major direction my modelling has taken this year has been Mould making with Latex and Plaster Casting following the discovery of Linka and Scalecast, culminating in the development of Weldons castle ruin. This involved an additional triangular sub baseboard and extensive remodelling of what was to become Castle Hill.
A couple of kits has also been constructed a Bedford lorry and a Spitfire photos of both to appear in the future.
Building, platform and street lighting are now also appearing with Little Weldon Station giving Blackpool a run for its money. Various lamps and Leds are on order so that Weldon "High Street" and Station complex can be lit along with the Goods yard and Locomotive Depot.
Little Weldon has acquired to more locomotives this year Crepello and the Canadian Pacific Duchess and a further wagon has also entered service the United Glass Limited sand wagon. Five Oxford diecast road vehicles have also found their way onto Little Weldons roads.
A few days ago I found out that there is a real Little Weldon in Northamptonshire, but it has no railway. IMG_20191027_164445_kindlephoto-51221355.jpg IMG_20191217_060256_kindlephoto-217126023.jpg

Exciting times ahead for Little Weldon I think... excellent progress Dublo and very atmospheric too, my favourite bit has got to be the castle ruins which to me are the focal point of your lovely layout. :tophat::tophat::tophat:

Every time I see your photos of the layout with the lighting switched on, I feel that I should add something similar to mine. If I do, though, it will be something I do when most of the other work is finished and, at my current rate of progress, that could be a couple of years.

    Hello all
One thing I like to do at this time of year is to look at Hornby Dublo catalogues, I think this must stem from childhood Christmases looking at the new Hornby catalogue. Things seemed to slow down a little at Binns Road for 1960 after 1959s flood of new items. Only two new locomotives this year 4 if you count 2 and 3 rail seperately the 08 and the Deltic. The only all plastic coaches in the range were introduced during this year the Pullman cars. Also 4 new items of rolling stock, SR four wheeled utility van, Presflo bulk cement wagon, ICI 20 ton bulk salt wagon and the lowmac. Both double and single mouth tunnels were introduced. The items which caught my eye this year though were the Illuminated Buffer stops and the Lighting kit for the range of plastic buildings. I have a boxed pair of the Buffer Stops but I have never seen the Lighting Kit.
I thought that it was somewhat of a coincidence with my recent forays into the world of lighting, moving on slightly it took me two years to get to this point as well Wolseley. However trying to fit lighting in assembled kit buildings that were assembled without thought to this aspect can be a little difficult.

I can remember the prototype "Deltic" coming into Retford on the ECML probably around 1959/60. At the time, it wasn't very popular with us 'trainspotters', as we were all used to the A3's/A4's on the expresses. That was the last time I saw that loco until a visit to the NRM at Shildon last year, it hasn't changed a bit, unlike me!:giggle:

    Hello all
I managed to spend some time on Little Weldon over the weekend. Firstly I started casting some tiles for my next Linka build, I am planning on building a couple of 1930's Metroland "Ideal Homes" very similar to the ones that my Grandparents lived in. The Bay Window will be the most difficult part of this project I have the Scalecast mould but it is not quite what I am after. So I shall have to alter the castings somewhat, I think I shall then make a new mould of the adapted pieces.
Whilst I was waiting for the tiles to cure I carried on with the next stage of my illumination project, quite conveniently this could be carried out off the layout.
My "High Street" consists of several Superquick and Metcalfe Low Relief kits glued to a piece of Artist Mount Board which then has had my scanned pieces of Dinky toys paving glued to it. This results in a street of low relief buildings fixed onto the pavement which is then just placed on the board. So this section was soldered up sitting at the kitchen table. With just one hole being drilled through the baseboard for the wires to pass through.
The first of my latest Ebay wins arrived on Saturday too this being the Crescent Toys Signal Gantry, these models were produced during the 1950's and are made entirely of metal which compliment's the Hornby Dublo signals well.
I wish you all a Happy New Year, and all the best in your modelling endeavours.

I love those "night-time" shots, although it's a pity that Meccano Ltd didn't make semaphore signals with lights as well.

And, going off-topic for a moment:
Maybe the real Little Weldon doesn't have a station, but the real Castle Hill does. My local station, on Sydney's North-West Metro, opened last year:
