Mrs O announced she wanted me to accompany her and toddler O to the local National Trust site today. I wasn't particularly enthusiastic at the prospect it has to be said but I grudgingly agreed.

I'm glad I did because I was able to pick up the following books from their second hand book sale for the princely sum of £6!

    Bargain!

I think it was (just about) worthwhile...

    IMG_20191102_203832.jpg

The centre door handles need slightly straightening. Now onto the other side...

    Sorry, another boring post!

Temporarily assembled, I think my decision to redo the handrails was definitely worth it. Just got to do the other side now!

    IMG_20191103_100451.jpg

Just about visible are the spring overlays from Tim Horn. Just tacked on with PVA here both these and the rails need minor adjustments.

Still to be done are new buffers, couplings and steps.

I'm presuming this one is going to be a slave unit for the Tinsley Hump Class 13 high power shunt loco ? Nice work anyway.

No Paul, just a regular Class 08 - I just hadn't bothered assembling the cab for the photo above!

Cheers both. It's been fiddly as I really hate bending handrails but worth it now it's done. Now I've reassembled it I do think that it has improved the overall look of the body too.

Here's a pic with the cab on, mainly to dispel the theory that I'm building a Class 13!

Ah but its got no front buffers fitted yet so it could still be a class 13 build :scratchchin: actually they did have front buffers fitted between the slave unit so that theory is kicked into touch. :avatar: Seriously again Matt a very crisp building mod you did:tophat::tophat::tophat:

Nice work so far Matt and it's looking good although the wrong livery...! (it should be green... :D)

An easier way to make scale hand rails is this from Platform1Creative :

    Cheers, Gary.

    Platform 1 Creative? Any link?

I have a Bill Bedford handrail jig but find it a right faff to use. To be fair, this tool looks better and easier*

Luckily, I'm done with handrails for a while, until the next project at least :hammer:

*is this still available? A quick Google search has turned nothing up

A brake van sits abandoned while the wind whips across a scene of desolation...

Or, in other words, a layout needs a bit of work!

    Try again!
When I saw your post it reminded me of another layout, "Shell Island". I have only seen a photo or two but always fancied copying it in O gauge.

    Thank you Pete!

Shell Island is, and long has been, an inspiration to me.

Lovely start on what is bound to be a great layout. :)

How did you do the concrete on the shack? Which, by the way, looks the mutts nuts. Or would cats pajamas be more appropriate, going off your avatar picture? :D
