So tonight the tine came to fit the extension deck to the turntable deck and check for fit. I’ve one issue where the wheel cover is a slightly different angle, but I don’t remember if I’ve already corrected for this since drawing. I don’t think I did (but I did make some of the “tray” slots bigger so may have to revisit)

anyway, here are some photos. Once the glue has dried I will set to painting the whole turntable and fitting the Rapier cast plates and the air reservoirs.

From below, you can just see the drive shaft from the winding handles.

    From the pit side...

I have to say I’m quite pleased with this.

Andy can I say this is a great garden railway layout build. I have been reading your thread and watching the videos of your layout and the locomotives and rolling stock.
Nice work also on the build of the turntable.:tophat:

I'm definitely going to go for the 'add-on' bits for this turntable if I can just get a few of my current projects complete and out of the way. Not sure how many is 'too many', but will keep plodding on.....my late Dad used to say "Make haste slowly" and I'm doing that now!:giggle:

Thank you Bo-Bo. It’s starting to fall silent at the moment as the cold and dark evenings occur, although we may have a few day operating days. So we’re just planning next stages (point motors and signalling) then scenery.

The deck has gone in for priming today so is all black.

    9E45DC31-3CC3-419C-900B-687233EDC0E4.jpeg
Wooden deck and grey steel work to follow.

then refit the wheels and paint the base.
I’m wondering if to make concrete or to have a brick lined wall for the well?

I’m having thoughts as to what colour to paint the handrails and uprights.
Gunmetal or white? what’s people’s thoughts?

Looks great Andy, as for the handrails, I'd go for very dirty white.

    Cheer's, Pete.

I used Blue 'Engineering Brick' paper for the well walls on mine as I'd imagine they'd have used these for extra strength, but I guess it depends what era you're modelling as doubtless speed and cost came into it as time progressed. It'd have been 'fun' doing concrete shuttering for a curved wall though!:giggle:

:scratchchin: That’s a thought. It’s been painted a light grey this morning, but it’s a similar shade to the metal work I’ve painted the deck and doesn’t stand out enough. Yes, I need to weather... probably some dark dust, but your point re shuttering for a curve is a fair point. It may well need to be brick as you say.

Nearly there. Most painting done. Few touch ups to be done. Then some weathering. B985E16C-EDE4-4355-A32F-378C4CDEA7EE.jpeg
builders plate fitted, handrails painted. Still have to lift the deck again to finish and paint the running rail.

    Rapier builders plate.

End platform. Winder handle column and the locking lever. I still need to make a vacuum column and pipe.

The final bit I wanted to do before refitting the turn table back in the baseboard was weathering. I may add a little rust later on, but at the moment all I’ve used is charcoal dust.

I may revisit some areas and darken a little more to hide a few streaks.

but I’m quite pleased with this.

4B7604E4-69F5-4791-A42E-F59DCD288F43.jpeg weathered the Rapier plate too and that’s highlighted the lettering even more in my opinion.
